Very cool. They're showing the coins in their resting place.

A bit disappointed. I wish they could have shown more on the coin restoration process at NCS. image

They put the coins in sea water to transport them to ncs.
I think I saw MS64* on one of the ngc holders.

I think the coins are awesome in their unpreserved state (with the crust).

Actually, I fully agree. What a cool aquarium that would make. image

    It's on at 10:00 Central.

Can a person buy any of the coins unpreserved?

They had it on NBC at 7 also. You can go to the Odyssey website and sign up for information. They sent me an email about both programs. All the artifacts were cool, including the coins. Did you see what they put the coin in, a bedpan, too funny.

It's on later again tonight if you want to set your TIVO / DVR. I just set mine to tape.

I loved it when they said that the coins were sent to an un-disclosed place and the two people were wearing NCS jackets.

That coin you guys are talking about was a 1865 MS64*Double Eagle....

Pretty incredible since I think the finest known is a 63...

The robot is shown slowly plucking each 20 dollar gold coin one at a time from the sea bottom with a rubber suction cup.....the crew is then shown gingerly handling each coin one at a time with rubber gloves and easing them into special coin tubes with foam inserts placed between each coin.....the coins are then carefully shipped in canisters filled with sea water to the curators......then at the end of the process some boob opens the tubes of the finished coins and skids them out across a table on top of one another then says something like "This is what it is all about the finished product"......OUCH!!!!!!!!
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever

Brian and Dave. I loved Brian's comment about the fingerprint being tougher than the encrustation to remove.

I also noted that with all of the care taken to carefully "suction cup" remove the coins from the seafloor so as not to scratch them, they then proceed to drop the coins into a vessel in which I am sure that they bounce off one another as each new coin is added imageimage
