I believe that I have found an as yet uncatalogued 1972 Topps Candy Lid Stargell. If you look at the
scans both front and back, the 1973 version is on the left. According to the most recent Beckett Almanac
the lid on the right has all the attributes of the 1972 version. In the almanac they have stated that the
checklist is incomplete.
I spoke with Mike Moser of Columbia City Collectibles about it yesterday. If any of you have ever seen th
inventory he brings to a show, you'd probably agree that he can be somewhat of an expert with regard to
test or oddball issues. He puts an estimated value of about $350 on it.
I just wanted some opinions from some of the board members who may have seen similar player
variations or know anything about this. Thanks. The possible 1972 is on the right in both scans.

I've seen these borderless candy-lids before.
I think Jim at 707 may have had a few in his bag of tricks once upon a time.
I believe he knew the deal on them and also refered to them as being a prototype or test issue made in '72.........but it's been a while, so I don't take that as gospel.
I'd drop him a line and see if he can help you.
He also had some blank back proofs on regular 2.5" x 3.5" card stock, he sold me the Murcer (god only knows into which box it got "filed") but I'll take a look and try to scan it one of these days.
issue. the 1970 issue candy lid top had pics of seaver, yaz, and frank howard. could be a 72, seems to have some characteristics
of the 70 and the 73.
any good word on that lid ?
can you say where you got it ?
your friend, lee
I don't know much else about it.
