Need some acetone advice

I'm playing inside today because of the weather. I have some original bank roll Franklins and some original bank roll 1964 Kennedys with what you guys call "milk spots" on them. Was wondering if a little dip in acetone will shine these babys up? I also have some brown box Ikes that I would like to crack out and do the same to. Any "how to" advice would be appreciated.

Also, assuming they are just going swimming for a few seconds, would I have body bag problems when I send them in to be slabbed?

Thanks
Loan Shark

Acetone will dissolve many organic substances including most greases. It will
have no effect on most inorganic substances except for salts. It should not be
possible to tell that a coin was bathed in acetone but will probably not take off
the milk spots or the toning.

Acetone will not "shine up" anything. It is a degreasing agent that will remove oils and such. It will not remove tarnish/toning or those "milk spots" with are the result of improper rinsing of the planchets after they were cleaned at the mint. In my experience I have found that it usually will not do anything for the hazing often seen on proof coins.

Dont' drink it, bathe in it, or let your pet turtle swim in it.

If you're playing inside and want to play with acetone, make sure you're in a well ventilated area... that stuff has highly toxic fumes.

Acetone is very flammable but not particularly toxic. The sale of it would be more tightly controlled if it was THAT toxic.

Acetone is great for PVC and some organic stuff. Not much help on milk spots.

Sometimes acetone will remove a little ugly only to show off the ugly under it.

On the very few coins I feel can be helped I always try acetone first.
Don't know I have ever improved the luster using it.

I feel that every coin is a different situation to deal with.
