2 guys willing to pay over a grand each for this card - looks like it was a fair fight to me.

Wow. 20 seconds left and 4 seconds left. That's unreal. Bet the seller was thinking... aw man, I thought this would get 500 for sure... BAM! $1100.

    Nice.

That waittillnextyear guy won around 15 1965 topps auctions last nite from dsl. mostly mets and yankee's. I know cuz I battled with him for a few cards. as for spending over a grand for card 598 i dunno if i would have, even if it was a 1 of 1. he seems to be the 65 topps answer to quality horse racing and rearrevespindleberger. however with that said i hope he enjoys the card. he used some sort of program to bid though cuz some cards were ending at the same time and he was still getting bids down.

edited to add that Downing was a 1 of 3
    Good for you.

Patience is the key...no use going head to head with these guys. In the long run you will come out ahead if you take your time.

    Snowball,

Cuz two guys have deep pockets !!!

I'll bet neither one had any idea that this card was going to cost them so much.

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.
  • Duke has the #1 set and probably the highest rated set of the entire decade at 8.8-something. I'm guessing he wants all 9's and he didn't have this one yet. He got a break the other day on a 1/1 #228-Sanford that went for under $90 I believe. It's no use bidding on the 1/1's. I usually just lay off. He's helped me out, so I try to let him alone unless I really need the card.

    I agree John

as for the duke needing a nine he has a nine in his yankee team set and in his complete set. so i guess he may be building another set or wanted to use it as trade bait.
    Good for you.
  • Hey,

That is not even close to this one. 1961 Ralph Terry PSA 9

In both auctions the snipe didn't cost the buyer any money. It was just two guys wanting the same card.

  • Kyle must've messed his pants on that one. This is one of the last dealers led kicking and screaming into graded card sales.
