Pat Tillman killed in war in Iraq

While the two people in the card world argue about restoring cards, I just learned that Pat Tillman was killed in Iraq. Extremely sad.

Oh no! That is sad! He truly was one of the greatest men of our time for doing what he did. He will never be forgotten as long as I live.
  • Sure makes the Manning family look even more foolish, eh?

That's sad. I hope the NFL decides to honor him in some way this season.

Hoping your information may possibly be incorect.

What a shame, every American loss of life, any human life, is a real shame.

Rather than discuss the politics of this difficult, complex, and sad situation, my most sincere sympathy to the Tillman family.

In my opinion, discussion of the Manning contract situation with San Diego has no place here. Let's not derail this thread.

My prayers go out to the Tillman family.

That is horrible news....I remember Rome talking about him on his radio show where he talked about leaving the NFL for the Army.

Turning down 3.6 million to protect and die for your country.
Words can't describe that awesome sacrifice.

  • My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family of Mr. Tillman, and to all families who have lost loved ones during these conflicts that we are currently engaged in. We owe the soldiers and their families our eternal gratitude.

Let's remember that ALL of those lost in our conflicts are heroes. They may not have given up large NFL salaries to join the military, but they all gave up the relative comforts of American life, and they gave up time with families and friends to fight for our country. No one soldier who fights for our country is any less of a hero than Pat Tillman.

    Well said coucher

We need more heros like Pat Tillman. It's so said when they are taken from us so young

This information is correct. We will be conducting a return ceremony at Dover AFB for him this evening. I will be in charge of the detail, so rest assured he will be treated with the UTMOST respect that he deserves.

We in the Army community are saddened everytime we are alerted of another soldier being killed in action. But it really hits home when you either know the guy, or at least know his story.

Just remember, that he is one of the many real hero's that have died in combat recently. You haven't heard their stories yet, but one day you will.

Yeah, it's all over the news here in Phoenix. That is sad. I kinda sat there in shock for a while. He was one of my favorite players on the Cardinals. God Bless his family.

  • Tillman dying is incredibly sad.

go search "Pat Tillman" on ebay and you'll see something just as sad. a few unscrupulous jackasses are using A UNITED STATES SOLDIER'S DEATH as a way to make a quick buck. these jerkoffs should be thrown in jail

People are going a little overboard with the bidding. This always happens when somebody famous dies. I'm happy that buyers are getting what they are looking for right now but it does kinda bother me that people are making huge profits off this.

    Take a look
  • The seller states a portion of the sales will go to the 9/11 fund. I hope it's a good portion of it.

  • Unbelieveable sacrifice...very painful...our country needs the Pat Tillman's of the world to live not to die...and I agree with the others on this thread that we honor "all" those that sacrifice themself...

  • I heard it this morning and I am sickened to my core every time I hear the news about one of our Soldiers not coming home. Although all I knew about Pat was via television, he seemed like one hell of a guy, a friend we wish we all had and a guy we wish we were all more like. God, take him into heaven and Bless our Soldiers, they are the true Heros.

My families condolences and prayers to ALL our Soldiers who won't come home.

  • Certainly puts things in perspective. My dad is still active duty (there are over 300,000 active duty in the Navy and as of today, there less than 100 with more experience and are older than him, which I'm very proud of!)

I'm in San Diego and to hear all this crap about how Eli Manning doesn't want to come here or whatever... makes me ill.

This ebay feeding frenzy is sickening.
  • I watched Pat play, both at ASU and in the NFL. He is worthy of all praise and homage that has been given.

I believe it's very important to remember that it is equally tragic when any of our people does not make it home. Those who have lost a family member, neighbor, high school buddy, etc. are of course just as saddened It is true that Pat gave up the money and allure of the NFL, showing extreme sacrifice and patriotism. Still, so many others gave the same scarifice, and while most if not all did not make the money and prestige that Pat forfeited, they gave up something far more valuable- the ability to see their spouses and children again.

    May we find a way.

It's sad that it takes a tragic death like this to remind us all that we have men in the armed forces fighting, dying and protecting us each and every day. Once the Network news loses interest we seem to follow suit (Not all, but you know what I mean). I'm making myself a promise to take a few minutes each day to think about both the living and the dead that have served/are serving in the Middle East.

I too was saddened to hear about the loss of Pat Tillman, I didn't realize he quit football to join the Army. Makes me want to reflect on what is really important in life, and even though I am 42 years old, I still have a lot to learn about life and the greatness of some people.

Just 4 months ago, I lost a close friend in Iraq, and I have others serving in Afghanistan and Iraq as well. I worry constantly for their well-being, which is why this hobby has provided a great outlet for me. Please consider...If you have a neighbor or friend (or just know someone) whose loved one is serving overseas, please consider asking them if they need any help. Getting the kids to school, mowing the lawn, repairs, trips to the grocery market, etc.

Interestingly enough, none of the Pat Tillman items currently on Ebay are PSA graded. Does anyone here have any PSA graded Tillman cards?
  • In another P. Tillman thread there was a post that stated the NFL is considering taking one of the 40 yard lines on the field (40 was P. Tillman's number) and making it red/white and blue. There was a phone number to the NFL office in NYC in the thread. I called this afternoon and a rep stated that the idea is being seriously considered by the NFL and possibly to make it a permanent fixture. The rep said "This way when future generations of fans ask why the 40 yard line is red/white and blue, they can be reminded of the story and sacrifice of Pat Tillman"
The rep also said that there will be a heartfelt memorial at tomorrows NFL draft. Get the tissue box ready.
Rest in Peace Pat, you will be missed and your sacrifice and all the sacrifices our servicemen make are greatly appreciated

I coached a kid named Marc Seiden when Marc was in the 7th grade.
After 9-11, Marc decided to enlist to serve his country like Pat.

Marc was killed 2 weeks before he was scheduled to come home.

It hit the newspapers and the town was saddened.

Words can't describe how proud you feel to have known
    people like this.

I don't think Pat would like this, but I like the idea of making
the 40 (Pat's number) on the fourty yard line red, white, and blue
this year in his memory and the memory of ALL who have sacrificed. image
