It's currently at $209,000 with juice. Will see exactly where it ends up.
I'm very happy with the item I consigned to the auction - significant "extended" action - and it has realized (after consignment fee) over double what I paid for it a few years ago in the Sothebys/Halper/Amazon auction.
Best,
MS

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

The 15-pack lot sold for approximately $5,000 a piece, coming in at slightly over $75,500.
On the other hand, the single pack sold for over $12,200.
I understand why Mastro did this on an operating cost perspective - but with such a huge disparity in pricing - you have to question if the consignor (and, possibly, Mastro) might have been better off breaking this lot up a little more than they did.....
The '52 single pack offering is just to tempt the underbidders on the 2nd day to get at least a "piece" of the action.
The only thing that would debunk my theory is having the single pack sell after the box...or would it? Actually it wouldn't as long as the consignor has the single pack bid to extremes before the box auction ends.
Someone got quite a deal with the 53 Topps and hockey pack lots. The difference between individual lots and group lots was substantial. $4,000 for a 57/58 Topps pack, yet not even $1,500 a piece for a group lot with similar grades. Other boxes got wildly overbid (a 76/77 Hockey box went for 2x full retail, 2x retail for 72/73 Topps basketball etc). Some people got carried away....
We were all a bit optimistic a few months ago in predicting the '52 Topps box (a half million )
Now we just have to wait for most of this material to show up on Ebay.....
<< <i>How many cards were in those packs? >>
Quite frankly, not enough.
If these are from the group of 15 and he gets his price per pack he stands to double up.

Didn't the single pack in the Mastro Auction sell for around $10.000.00?
I think his price is very reasonable.
Thanks H. Walker
I would be a buyer in the $5.5-$6 grand range as I'm sure about 14 or more others would. I have never seen a graded '53 offered on eBay.

<< <i>I agree with the $6K number. If grade was higher (maybe 7), then his price might be a bit easier to get. People that are used to looking at '52 Topps Packs in GAI 7-8 range for well less than the asking price here will have trouble plunking down $10K (IMHO).

I think these packs are a lot rarer than a 52 topps pack. I have also seen 52 topps packs sell for quite a bit more than $6000 in 7 and 8's
