Ebay Feedback Question

After buying or selling an item, what can you try to do to ensure that feedback is left for you? I try emailing the person and politely request that as long as they are happy that they please leave feedback. This doesn't seem to be too effective. Most of these are me purchasing instantly with paypal. What could possibly be the problem? Does anyone else have any thoughts or ideas?

If I am an instant paying buyer I always appreciate those that leave feedback instantly as well. Those sellers know that their product is sound and I reciprocate upon reciept. If a seller does not leave me feedback after a paypal purchase (or any purchase) I will upon reciept leave feedback or email them to let them know Ive recieved the item, am happy and that positive feedback will be left. Depends on the seller and my mood at the time. My mood usually equated with the quality of the card or item in question.

As a seller I always leave feedback upon reciept of payment

As a seller I always leave it when I get back from the Post Office,so I know what is on the way to the buyer.

Something like: Excellent Ebayer AAA+++,item shipped today.Enjoy!Thanks.

So far,1062 positives and 1252 left - only 190 people didn't leave any and sometimes after a few months you wind up seeing a few pop up when you least expect it.Bottom line - the buyer paid and you shipped. That buyer deserves their feedback even if they don't leave it for the seller.

I've given up on the pursuit of feedback as buyer,or seller. Some people just forget and there is nothing wrong with asking for it.Within the last few months I've noticed less and less people seem to leave it and it's not worth getting all up in arms over although I wouldn't complain if anyone took the time and reciprocated and do occasionally ask or remind.

I agree. I've given up on caring much about how many positives I have. Once I hit 500 pos with 0 neg, I realized that people know I am ok to deal with. Is there really a major difference between a seller with 1000 rating or 5000 rating? Not really. Both are probably excellent sellers and either one could rip you off anytime they want. I left a 5000+ guy a negative about a year ago because he ripped me off. The main thing that matters with feedback is the wording of the negatives. That's the only thing that cause somebody to bid or not bid. Anyone who is at 1000+ positives and is wasting their time chasing feedbacks is just doing it for their ego (not saying you are, but some people do).

You may think that it doesn't matter but it does to everyone and it's a little ego stroke at the very least.I'll admit,I like my feedback and hope that someday I can hit the 1000 rating but I'm not going out of my way too much or too often to ask for feedback anymore for the same reasons you point out Steve.

As a buyer a few times I felt insulted that a seller didn't leave it so I know how Chris may feel by not getting his feedback. As a buyer it almost would seem like the seller doesn't want your business again.I'm not saying it is that way but it will make a buyer feel that way.
  • When ever I sell items on ebay, I enclose a coupon which I've printed up in mass quanity, offering free shipping on their next purchase. On the coupon, I have on the reverse side asking if everything is satisfactory if you'd be so kind and leave a feedback, most of the people have left positive feedback. I'll try and post my coupon later so you can see it. Offer free shipping to your buyers. When I buy on ebay, I let the seller know that if he would leave a feedback, It will help me to buy from them again, I normally just click on the feedback, then click on sellers auctions and do more repeat buying. Most of the time I do buy from them again and again, if they don't want to leave a feedback, it's their loss they could have made some extra money even if I didn't win the bid.

If your only interested in raising feedback, buy them. There are plenty of buy it now items with free shipping for 1 cents. This is an easy way to rack up your rating. Personally I have enough feedback and I really don't care how many I have. But I still like recieving them. I always leave feedback, so come and bid on my auctions.... image
