Received my second coin on this trip today

Been in Beijing almost 2 weeks and I just received my second coin on this trip. The first was a 5 Jiao that I got at the airport when I exchanged money on my arrival. Today I got a 1 Yuan in change at a local supermarket. It seems that Beijing at least has gone to an almost exclusive paper currency system. image
In my previous stays here getting 5 Jiao and 1 Yuan coins was extremely commonplace. In fact you had to work at getting rid of them or you would be overrun with coins. Even the small Fen coins were easy to get if you brought fruit at a market. I haven't seen anything priced in 2 decimal places, therefore no Fen. In the past it was quite difficult to find paper Jiao, no longer!

Mostly just bored. The trip could have ended last week, very little work to do this week. On the bright side I did have the weekend off so I took a tour to the Summer Palace and Forbidden City. I would have liked to spend more time at the Summer Palace - a very impressive place!

Over the years I've probably spent 20 weeks here working. In all that time I've had a total of one day off. So it was quite a luxury to have an entire weekend off! image

The paper currency for the 5 Yuan and up have been resized and re-designed since I was last here. Thankfully you can still use the old currency. Chairman Mao has made a re-appearance on the new currency. I have not received a 2 Yuan bill yet to know if that has been updated. The 1 Yuan bill was left unchanged (sort of like good 'ol George).
