Anybody else deal with Katiekenmare on ebay???? (Updated)

I bought 5 SA coppers from her auctions last week, paid immediately and the coins arrived today. Problem is, she has a 'no returns' policy in the fine print (that I did not notice) and all 5 of the coins have been harshly, harshly cleaned. I do mean HARSHLY - these coins all are completely hairlined to the naked eye and look really nasty under slight magnification.

I know, I should have paid more attention to the pics in the auctions and I should have read the fine print more closely, but I didn't. I have sent the seller an email questioning if they will take returns in this case since the coins have been scrubbed, but I am not holding out much hope.

My question to the members here - if the seller won't take the coins back, would you leave a neutral/negative feedback to let others know that they are selling harshly cleaned coins?

UPDATE:

Had a very nice conversation with this seller over the weekend (all about cleaning coins and destroying the value there-of). End result is that she will refund the coins and the shipping (both ways). I think I might have convinced her to use the phrase 'CLEANED' in her auctions as well...

  • If she'd left left positive feedback for your payment first that would be best. Then I'd leave a neutral that honestly stated the problem like: 'Coins harshly cleaned-no return policy' so future purchasers might not make the same mistake.

  • I just checked - she has already left feedback for the quick payment... I could leave the neutral w/o fear of reprisals...

To heck with a neutral. If the listing did not up-front mention the cleaning, a negative is completely warranted since there is a no-return policy.image

I vote for a neutral. Either way it's an unfortunate situation. image I hate that, you save up money for coins, getting more and more eager to get something, then you wind up getting burned.

If the seller sells mostly coins and should no better then I would e-mail and ask to return them anyway if the auction did not mention the cleaning.
Then if the seller said no I would leave a negative.

To me thats like selling a radio you know dosen't work and not saying anything about it and then letting the buyer suffer for your benifit.

I got a coin like that once that I paid $165 for and the seller had a no return policy but they gave me my money back anywa. You can't hide defects like that and just think people should be stuck its dishonest.

It would also depend on the value somewhat. If I paid more for shipping than the coins were worth it might not be worth the expense to return them.

Also a link to the auction might be useful.

Ok Placid - here are links to 3 of the auctions:

    Coin 1

    Coin 2

    Coin 3

As you can tell - I'm not out a lot on the coins so it wasn't a very expensive lesson, but they sell mostly coins and should at least mention the fact that the coins were scrubbed in the listing...

I did email the seller last night and I will give them a couple of days to respond before I take any action on this...

It's a bit sneaky that "no returns" is buried way at the bottom in the shipping policies. Most sellers with that rule will put it in the description. Then again, I usually don't bid on auctions where I see "no returns". Maybe they learned that already and that's why they don't have it in the description.

Let us know what they tell you.
  • I don't think it was sneaky since "no returns" was listed under the catagory of "Seller's payment instructions & return policy."
A neutral is warrented if she does not give you back your money.

Maybe eBay should separate the Shipping and Returns sections. You can cram a lot of stuff into that area.
  • I noticed on that last auction the title stated it was a 1936, in the body of the description they said it was a 1934, and in the photo it is a 1941.

Did they give you all 3 years? image
