89 upper deck

what are the odds of pulling a griffey from a low series foil vs a high series foil? i thought each pack contained a "star rookie" regardless?

Thanks,

David (LD_Ferg)

  • Don't know about the low series but remember back in 1989 towards the end of the year a local dealer had some UD left. I bought around eleven packs (not sure why that number sticks in my head) and am pretty sure it was the high series as I thought I may get an Abbott rookie. Got three Griffey's (two centered well, one not) and I think one Abbott. It's been 15 years now but I still remember it as the best pack breaks I ever had (stopped buying packs in 1992 - enjoyed getting all those Topps Gold Winner cards that year though).

89 UD high series is actually more likely to yield the Griffey RC... the star rookies were seeded more generously in the high series than the low series... I learned this from the owner of a card shop years ago and he proved it by pulling a Griffey RC out of a high series pack right in front of me. I think he opened only 4 or 6 packs to do it!
  • the chances of pulling a Griff out of the high series is very unlikely, most were seeded to the low series, from my experience
looking for Greg Maddux cards, will trade most anything I pull to get what I need
  • Bah lost my post cause I had a bad word in it and couldnt edit it without erasing it some how so never mind, sorry.
  • I remember it was harder to pull the low series rookies out of the Hi-Number packs but when you did it seemed like you usually got 2 in the same pack
  • Opps hit send too soon..

I think we all enjoyed the early topps packs from 1992 when you could use a flashlight and get all the winners.. Too bad Topps stopped that mid season.
