A very interesting group of cards. Do you know the source/any additional information on the 1952 Bowman Mickey Mantle GAI 10 Perfect card? I am wondering if this was the second (mysterious) PSA 10 that had existed. Freaky how these timing issues work, though.
Peter Garcia's PSA 10 is being auctioned off in the Robert Edwards Auction - and now it looks like this second GEM Mantle from the same issue is available at the same time. I wonder if this won't have a big negative impact on prices realized. People don't often recognize just how thin the market is at the top - and the number of individuals willing to put up $50,000+ or whatever for a GEM MINT Mantle card are few and far between. Put the two best examples in the hobby in the market at the same time - seems like the consignors/sellers lose...
What is Robert Edwards' web site?
Thanks
If there is a GAI 1952 Bowman Mantle in a 10, then there would be THREE GEM MINT 10's out there. I sold the first PSA GEM MINT 10 1952 Bowman Mantle about 7 years ago. This buyer still has the card, and I have seen it very recently. It is definitely the one card I wish I had back! I have seen the REA PSA 10, and the one I sold has much better eye appeal -- if that can be possible in a GEM MINT 10 card.

Joedel:
Thanks for the insight. It appears, then, that the one you had is not the one that Peter bought. Without insider knowledge - I imagine it is quite a symbiotic relationship in the REA auction. Peter has been willing to sell his 52 Bowman Mantle 10 for some time now. REA is new in the auction circuit (not really new - but first time as a stand alone after the split from Mastro), so they need some premier material. I assume that the consignment rate on that one is just about zero - with potentially downside risk averted through a reserve. Just speculation from my end, of course.
Here, I believe is a scan of the 1952 Bowman Mantle GAI 10:
'69 Clemente PSA 10 (Cert # 07084965)
Ive seen more 1969 PSA 10 Clementes up for auction than I have 1965 Topps PSA 8 Al McBeans!
Taken from their website:
Do not test our auctions with false bids. This puts you at substantial personal legal risk. Fraudulent bidders will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Currently, both the FBI and the US Secret Service are responsible for investigating all Internet fraud cases.
Do other auction houses like Mastro or Robert Edwards have similar policies?
I don't think either of those two auction companies have hidden reserves, but you might want to check their rules. As for Superior.......1971 Rose
Check out the description about 3/4 of the way down. It states "Superior sports listed this in their spring fling auction and did not receive enough for my personal “reserve” so now I have her back and I am going to try Ebay." This is not the only card this consignor had "personal reserves" with, as he had many of the PSA MINT 9 Rose cards in that recent auction.
Maybe I'm missing something...
It seems to me that if a card has a "reserve" placed on it by the consignor...there is no mention of it either in the catalougue or online.
Is that correct?
I have seen an advanced copy of the description in the current Mile High auction for the 1969 Clemente PSA 10. Brian Drent specifically states that this card is NOT the same card from the last auction. The cert on this new card is #09096306. The cert on the earlier card is #07084965.
There are also no hidden reserves on this auction.

Mile High also brings up something that, until today, I was unaware of happening.....
Lot #70 - 1941 Play Ball #71 Joe DiMaggio GAI 7
This tremendous pasteboard was issued in 1941 during a tumultuous time in the history of America with the country at war. During the summer of '41 Joe D. helped ease the pain of the country by hitting a country captivating .406
Stupid me always thought that was Ted Williams.
Currently collecting.....your guess is as good as mine.
CHECK THIS OUT!!!
These are some of the cards in there Auction on May 19th.
It does make you think twice.

than mount everest.
any photoshop work. With that in mind, I can live with a few editorial oversights any day of the week.
As for reserves, Derek Grady at Mastro told me they don't allow it. Though I suppose a consignor could bid on his own items if he wanted to fake his identity. I imagine there would be unpleasantness if he actually won the item in order to keep it from going cheaper.
