Forget about the grading. Forget about the politics. Forget about the personalities. From an aesthetic standpoint alone, which holder do you prefer?

  • I prefer the look of the PCGS holders over NGC/ANACS...

I also prefer PCGS holders. Cleaner look. They stack better.

And have you noticed the dealer website photos lately? So many of the NGC coins are tilted in the holders (poor QC), so they are very difficult to photograph. I will try to dig up an example.

For me it's a tossup between PCGS and ANACS. But, I'm looking at it from a coin viewing and imaging perspective. The plastic and the insert of NGC slabs are too thick and obscure cameo contrast and color more than the other two.

PCGS looks nicer and also is easier to get good pictures of.

  • I like the PCGS holders, but I wish they could come up with a design such as the SEGS holders, being able to see part of the label from the top.

Prefer the PCGS, but in these high-tech times, how hard is it to add a strip across top of slab identifying type and grade?
  • I like NGC's white inserts. ANACS holders are too small for me.

I have to say that I think SEGS has the best holders. They are definitely the toughest to crack, in my experience, and they have the nifty label at the top.

If it wasn't for a possible future resale of ANY of my coins I'd crack'em all out in an instant...therefore I voted NONE. image

PCGS holder prevents you from seeing the rim on many coins.

BUT...I have a lot of trouble photographing coins in NGC holders because of the white background. I can always put some black material behind the clear PCGS holder which makes it easier to photo...for me. I don't have any ANACS coins but that would give me the same problem.

I think ANACS holders are good in that they are SMALLER.

  • I'd like them to have the sides and "fields" of the slab built in a way that you could view the edges of the coin... especially in the case of the lettered edge coins...

I like the look of PCGS better, but believe that NGC provide better protection for coins. Just crack one out and they seem to have better protection against the elements and more "heft".

I like the look of the PCGS holder more, but I like the fact the NGC slabs are airtight.

  • ANACS is my favorite. They are small, and easily go anywhere.

NGC is far the better for toned coins, maybe not for taking pics though. I agree that PCGS is better for proofs. The NGC white insert really brings out the color, but it overshadows the cameo contrast on proofs.

I like the PCGS holders, they look cleaner, easier to tke pics and sometimes you can kindda see the edge of the coin.

NGC for darker coins, PCGS for white coins.

I think the PCGS holder is far superior to the NGC holder in that it actually lets you see the coin! I have found that, especially for Proof Indian Cents and Proof Buffalo Nickels, the superior optical quality of the PCGS plastic gives a much clearer view of the coin's surfaces, mirrors and cameo contrast. I have noticed that since NGC went to their new plastic holder a couple of years ago, the quality of their plastic is terrible with small bubbles or uneven surfaces. This is coupled with the fact that their plastic inserts are either too thick or the coins are placed too far from the covering plastic, which makes viewing surfaces and mirror quality difficult.

from that standpoint, acg has a slight edge on anacs. those are the 2 easiest to crack & remove coins. the worst would be segs - tough little suckers, though recent ngc slabs give em a run for the money. seems like the more recent slabs from ngc are more "rubbery" & don't shatter as easily. pcgs slabs are about average.
