Is this the american attidute we have toward each other???

I dont understand....i lost my first package from a seller in cali this week and asked another seller to please include insurance which i had not paid for..and id get out 3 bucks to cover 2.50 in insurance stat.....this was the response i got.....

Address is: (removed- ebay seller is meandmydoghun)

READ THE AUCTION> "insurance optional at additional cost. I'm not
responsible for damage to unsured items". I advised you as to additional
insurance costs sometime ago you negelected to respond. (I KNEW THIS...IT WAS NEVER DISCUSSED)

Do you do this on every auction you win?

Send the $2.50 if you want but please do not bid on any of my other
auctions. I will not sell to you. I will not post feedback for you. This
transaction is taking way to long & is way to much trouble. I will hold
the shipment until I have absolute positive confirmation that your
check has cleared my bank. You will need to wait another 3 - 5 business
days in order for me to insure the check has cleared. Sorry but I'm not
getting a good feeling about this transaction regardless of your past
feedback.
Thanks,
John

I DONT UNDERSTAND HUMAN NATURE.....is it to always act like this?? especially to someone who explained to him that the reason was for a recent lost shipment from the state...... any thoughts?? should i be upset by this sellers reply to me??? I offered to pay...didnt ask for immediate shipment...and the deal is taking LONG cause he has been waiting to send the dag on card!!!

First off its not "American" attitude. Im not understanding your thread title.

Its "human" nature in general. There are "aholes" out there. Some are just because, some are because of specific reasons. That is the biggest problem with the internet. No face to face hand shake thank you deals. People get burned and remember. Unwarranted? Yes.

BUUUUUUT Im going through a sale that supposedly he sent the package to the wrong address. Package was NEVER sent back to hin untill I nagged and he still does not have it. In 7 days it will be 30 days. Im feeling im going to get bit in the arse with this, because Im to trusting.

Anyho good luck. I would email him back and nicely explain that I wouldnt want him to ship the order until my check cleared. If that is his policy he should stick to it. (make it sound like you are letting him win) Maybe he will cool off.

Would I ever buy from him again..... probably. But as I said Im one of those "trusting" guys. Course after a second bad expierence with the same person I would not come back again.

What do you mean by American attitude? If you are inferring that the guy is treating you unfairly, you should not characterize that as an American attitude.

My negative experience factor is at least doubled when dealing with those North of the border.
No offense to the good guys, but I've come across some real petty "chaps" up der eh?

Maybe it's just hockey? lord knows the #1 bad seed is from a place just south of the Bronx.
  • Interesting how a thread about an American who has bad experience with an American somehow takes a turn
to "negative experiences with those North of the border"...

Just don't buy from him again. It is a hassle trying to coordinate checks clearing and updates to closed auctions - but if someone can't handle that they should not be selling on Ebay...and there are plenty of clowns who should not be selling on Ebay who are, and get away with aggressive responses to their "customers." Move on, but I would find it hard to resist dropping the seller a note back stating his position was out of line and hoping that the balance of the transaction is handled professionally on his part. There is always a minority of jerks you encounter wherever you are.

Lothar's a good guy and IMO, just venting. I'm not trying to referee or play his spin doctor - I took what he said more from a rhetorical rather than literal interpretation and no disrespect at large was intended. It's more like when you say: what the hell is going on here! Is America going to hell on a handcart or what! I feel that way every time I take the wheel of my truck and some ?><<<# cuts me off! Oh, now I'm venting........never mind.

fortunately most of our experiences buying and selling on e-bay are good ones, regardless of geography or nationality.

edited to ask : is that the 'new math' that says two wrongs make a right ?

whew, Mike, you almost lost it there....that wasn't you on the 405 this morning was it?image

Just kidding, Stone - this is a tough thing, this internet stuff - someone said it perfectly: no face to face hand shake done deal; it's all anonymous. We gotta find someway to manage this thing or we'll all be on meds.

  • Lothar,
Do what i do. Don't deal with people that don't have 100% feedback.
I've done over 2000 ebay transactions and have perfect feedback. Sometimes as a seller you have to give a little back. Ends up helping you in long run.
I guarantee the seller doesn't have perfect feedback.
    Just my opinion.

remember than many negatives are just knee-jerk retaliations.
I know ALL of mine over the years have been just that.

edited to add: all 3 of them, that is.

I was just messin around actually - I work 3 miles from my house - no commute - just a way to get a point across - I think for a second some people may have thought that Lothar was US bashing - sounds like a bad day to me.
Overall, my experience with purchases has been extremely good - in fact I have purchased stuff from people on these boards and I am very happy with their service, packaging, politeness etc.

"It's that new math. It drives them nuts."
"Drives them right into the streets."
    "You ready?"
    "Yeah, let's go".

Great movie, and they did the right thing by never making a sequal.

    Who is Rober Maris?
  • Lothar52- This guy was short tempered, but as I see it you could have prevented the problem by paying for the insurance initially. You stated that you had already lost a package from that area and were concerned about losing this one. To me that's a no brainer.
So the seller wants to block you from bidding on his auctions? So what. There are thousands more sellers to deal with. Get your package, move on and forget about it.

  • I agree with Lothar. It's not too much to ask for the guy to add insurance onto the package. A business should always be run with customer satisfaction first on the list. If this seller is too busy to cash the check or put insurance on the package, I wouldn't want to deal with the seller..period. You need to take care of the good customers, or you'll just be left with the losers that are non-paying or bounce checks or try to rip you off in some way.

The seller is about a mile and a half from me. I've dealt with him before, and while he will never be known for his customer service manner, he's solid.

That response is a total classic. If I were you I'd print it out and start a file-- 'Jack off ebayers'! Ten years from now you can look through the file and laugh your A@# off.

I got one like this a while ago on a Lebron Bowman Chrome. The picture in the auction depicted a nice card, centered 60/40, and the dog that I got in the mail was about 90/10. I wrote the guy back and told him I wanted a refund, to which he responded 'You already got an 80 dollar card for 36 bucks, what more do you want'. And so I reiterated: 'what I want is a REFUND'. What an awesome transaction. He did relent (I will give him credit for that), and I mailed the card back last week. We'll see what happens.

Anyway, why get so bunged up? Ebay is full of antisocial paranoids, and this f@$knut is just yet another in a long list.

The seller is not reacting appropriately. Yes, its a hassle on his part to do some extra stuff for your transaction, but its not unreasonable. A seller should be prepared for minor adjustments because he is dealing with humans.

    American attitude= instant gratification

This seller has no patience. All he has to do is make one trip to the post office and pay for insurance. That's it. When he gets the $3 check, he can cash it in along with the other checks he has received. He has to make no extra trips. Lothar will not write a $3 check that bounces according to his feedback, so the seller should not think about.

I have dealt with sellers recently that based on my feedback and polite emails, didn't bother to cash in the check immediately or wait for it to clear, but sent my item anyway. The checks have only recently cleared. They trusted me and that is cool!
