Question about the new master set for 1952 Topps baseball

Hey, does anyone know the status on PSA specifying BLACK BACK on the low numbers of this set? I've got about 15 black backs that are not designated BLACK BACK, and the population report seems to indicate that there are very few black backs out there. I think I'm correct in saying that maybe PSA just started designating BLACK BACK, but just not sure.

It's kind of a pain though because if you do want to go for the master set, you have to send back all the black backs that are not officially designated back to PSA to get reslabbed. What a pain. I'd like to switch my basic set over to a master, but am continually buying a lot of these "unofficial" black backs and don't even want to deal with the hassle to get them slabbed correctly.

You are right about PSA only recently differentiated black backs with the label BLACK BACK. They don't label the red back. You don't need to worry about the label. The registry will take your black backs in the master black back slot, and the red backs in the red back slot. The way I see the coding, the registry won't be able to distinguish a red or black back in either slot.

I am currently loading my master set--- tedious

Good luck and don't worry what the label says or doesn't say.

  • Thanks for the update, Ron. Another question for you...is it difficult to find the Page and Sain cards corrected, in the black back version?

The Sain and Page red backs may be a little harder than the black backs, but not significantly. The error variations are only in the black backs.
