1977 Topps Largent PSA 10 RC HOF

Hello members,

I normally wouldn't post a new topic about something like this, we can't stop all fraud
- but since this one could go big and I see some board members bidding I want to put out the word.

The 1977 Topps Largent RC HOF PSA 10 up for auction ending today (4/20) is most likey a fraud.
It is a card that would fit many different catagories of the Set Registry, but if you check the cert number it matches the Largent 10
on my fellow dealer's web site - Rick @ MintState Inc.

Looking at the sellers feedback, he has sold a lot of low dollar amount items (if you can even call 6 cents a dollar amount LOL)
and even the good feedback isn't very good. This guy also has a lot of other high $$ items up ending soon. Please be aware.
Other Auctions

Please don't get burned out there - it's bad for the business.

Talk to you all soon, Jeremy

PS If I'm wrong about this, please set me straight.
Jeremy

Thanks for the heads up Jeremy. I was a bit concerned with the guy's low feedback, but his only neg was from a NARU buyer. And, the picture of the card looked legit.

No such details will spoil my plans...
  • If it is legit, it should stay low because of the feedback - I hope for the winners of his auctions they are.

Well, thought I'd shake his tree a little... I asked him to send me a scan of the back of the card... let's see what he says!

I hate this crooked crap that keeps popping up... if this is a scam, I'd love to shut him down!

Yeah, thanks for the heads up. I put a low bid on just to see what the auction was going to do. I didn't do any research on it, but would have before placing a large bid. If it matches the one from Mint State, then this one is obviously a fraud. Same guy is selling quite a few other high dollar acutions, with some going over 1K already...

My red flags always go up when a high-dollar card is offered by a low feedback seller and little or no description is given, as is the case with the Largent auction. I'd stay far away.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • Jeremy did you email the bidders?
nice pick up thanks for the heads up

So Mint State paid $711 for the card and is selling it for $1,999. Hmmm. Maybe he has a bridge in NY and some swampland in FLA for sale too!

  • Thanks for the heads up Jeremy. I checked out the sellers feedback also and saw that it was mostly on $5 and less cards. I made the decision to pass on it. If it is a scam, I didn't want to deal with the aggravation. If it's not a scam (which doesn't seem to be the case), well congrats to whomever wins it.

Lesson #1 - Use a different ebay name when buying if you are going to resell a card like that.

Lesson #1 buy low sell high.

Rick is 1 of the best is not the dealer out there !!!!
What he pays for a card and resells it for is nobodys buiss but his.
ANYBODY THAT SELLS CARDS FOR A LIVING AND MOST THAT JUST COLLECT AND SELL SOMETIMES NEVER BUY A CARD WITHOUT INTENTION OF MARKING IT UP.

For Sellers like Rick or Jeremy or any major dealer this is not a crazy mark up its just good buissness.IT is very hard to keep high end cards in stock and they take the risk in buying these high $ cards that sometimes sit for a long time before they turn them over.I for 1 thank them for what they bring to the table in our hobby.

And by the way is you check there sites often you will find that there is always a buyer for these cards and down the line you may wish you paid there asking price for the next one may be even more.

Thanks again to Rick for picking up on this fraud auction and also to Jeremy for passing the info along

Yeah, but his other scam auctions are still running.

At least the Largent is gone... he never did reply to my email. Hmmmm.

But the other items look crooked too... the scans in each auction are all slightly different -- the resolutions, backgrounds, and cropping are not consistent. Chances are he is lifting these from other sources and posting them as his own.

I am going to email him to recommend he stop the auctions. If he doesn't, I guess I should email the high bidders. A drag, but it's the right thing to do!

    I hate these crappy guys!
