  • That's one of those "Coin World" slabs. A lot of people are buying them and "certifying" their own coins.

Ok, I was wondering. That coin sure as heck doesn't look ms66 or even ms60 to me.

  • Yep, Very poor picture/scan. I doubt very much that coin grades anywhere close to what they've put on the label.

I think that someone posted about the Coin World holder and people starting their own grading company. I suppose that's happening now. Makes it look real nicel doesn't it. It could be tough for that newbie who buys a coin like this and then turns to sell it later and is told that the grade isn't even close to what is on the label.

Maybe the "PL" is a qualifier for how the grading is done - Pretty Loose

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Thanks for the notice. I strongly suspect this is just some dealer slabbing his own coins but who knows. With the Coin World Shells avalable, now anyone can easily start their own grading/slabbing service. That's one of the reasons the number of services has exploded in the past year or so. (Can you believe there are 33 companies active at the moment?) And the worst part is I have to try and keep track of all these little wanna-bes as well, because at some point in the future someone will come across one of these and want to know about it. So I have to buy one for the reference set.

In a way it's sort of amusing BUT this IS America/ the land of opportunity and even the Big Boys

were once nobodies and had to slab that first coin! People are not stupid. While even PCGS annd NGC

at one time were "unknowns", they had to take a chance and start with that first coin, the decent

companies will stick around, while the wanna be's will be gone in no time!image
