Robert Chambers, The Coin Vault, NGC and the PNG

I know that everyone has their own feelings about the television Coin Shows. It seems that the Coin Vault on Shop at Home is probably the most successful of the bunch. As viewers know, they now "hawk" a tremendous amount of NGC graded material. I feel, in my opinion, that this is a good thing vis-a-vis the raw or third tier grading service stuff you see on some of the other networks.
Last night, however, Robert Chambers, who is the numismatist of the show if you will, took one huge step over the line.
Mr. Chambers is very fond of repeating, to the point of sickness, that NGC is the "Official Grading Service of the Hobby, the ANA".
Mr. Chambers spoke last night about how NGC is now the "Official Grading Service of ther PNG as well. NGC is now the preferred Grading Service of the two major watchdogs of the industry the ANA and the PNG".
OK so far I guess.
Then he went over the line. He blatantly lied about what the significance of the PNG "endorsement" meant. To paraphrase; " This isn't an endorsement like some of the shoe companies you see who are the "Official Shoe of Football. Those endorsements are simply the result of who will pay the most money to get the endorsement. The PNG has selected NGC as it's offical grading service because of its stellar reputation in the industry, not because NGC bought it."
Julie Tello, who was on the show too even made the comment that"So NGC didn't have to pay to get this endorsement, it is a reward for NGC being the best?"
Mr. Chambers then reiterated his statements about the shoe company analogy and that the endorsement had nothing to do with money.
I am a relatively calm person, but this out and out lie really pi**ed me off. I called the show and told them that Mr. Chambers was lying and that he knows better. He knows that NGC paid over $500,000 for the endorsesment , and that he is deceiving people into thinking NGC Coins have some additional value due to the PNG endorsement. I demanded a retraction or I would file a complaint against Shop at Home, Robert Chambers and Julie Tello with the appropriate agencies in Tennessee, and the FTC.
They had me on hold for about 30 minutes saying they had a manager talking to Chambers. They came back on the phone to me 3 times and asked if I would like to continue to hold, or could they call me back. I asked to be kept on hold. Finally the line went dead.
I have contacted the following organizations today. The ANA, PNG, NGC, FTC and the Tennessee Dept. of Economic & Comm. Dev.
Selling coins at what could be percieved at "blue sky" prices is one thing, lying to accomplish it is another.
All in my opinion.

<< <i>Did you get this animated when they were hawking PCGS slabbed coins and saying the same thing? >>
Irishmike........ I have never watched nor have I ever bought from the "Coin Vault", are any other overhyped disceiving and deceptive so-called coin entity like this one, that take advantage of the totally uneducated neophyte wannabe coin collectors/investors out there in lalaland........
That being said I think your obvious concern of wether or not PCGS was hyped the same way as this sleezy company is without a doubt lying to overhype NGC, PNG, and Annacs, to improve their sales to the obove mentioned noephytes is way out of line here........ Perhaps you are a disgruntled stock holder of "Coin Vault" and don't like the fact that someone, (clevegreg), with a pair of balls and principles has taken the initiative to call these slime balls to task for their deceptive practices.
I for one applaud "clevegreg" for his initiative!
What a punk.
Getting to be where you can coin phrases that come out of Chambers mouth...
"...and you'll receive, guaranteed, a 5 pound bag of unsearched wheat pennies..."..."

Puff, that noise you hear is the wind going over your head, as you completely missed my point.

But, please don't complain about Julie Tello -- she spends a lot of time with me late at night when I can't sleep!
I have received several email responses from some of the parties involved including NGC and Silvertowne. Both say they will speak to Mr. Chambers and make sure that he is aware that the PNG endorsement is a paid endorsement.
The following is from NGC:
Dear Mr. Drude:
Thank you for your email and I wanted to let you know that we will be
discussing the comments with both Shop at Home and Mr. Chambers and Ms.
Tello.
I do not believe their intent was to deceive the audience and the matter
will be rectified.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention and good luck collecting.

Knowledge is the enemy of fear
A great suggestion from Mark. Kudos.
The proof will be shown by a distinct change in the pitchmeisters verbage.
The jury is still out on this matter. Its much like what President Reagan said,
believe the other side but VERIFY. A somewhat doubtful old bear.

Thank you for your concern on the coin vault show, I feel sure that Robert did know that some of those
Endorsements are paid and some of the monies go education and the betterment of the hobby. But they
Are still an earned endorsement for the quality of the product that they provide the hobby and that is both
NGC and PCGS. Robert has been informed of your e mail and is now better informed. Thank you for
Your e mail
Dave
Be interesting to see if his tone changes.

Irishmike...... Trust me no wind flew over my head here.
As for my part if they were still selling PCGS coins and hawking them the way clevegreg has said that they are doing with the NGC coins I would be just as upset!
Keep us updated as to any real changes that occur.
