Shipping Charges

What do you think about adding shipping charges to "pay the help"?
I made the mistake of buying multiple auction from a board member who wrote this in his auctions,
"Postage shipping and insurance is just Four dollars. I do combine shipping at the rate of Two Dollars per coin/auction.................Example 3 auctions won = $4.00 1st + $2.00 2nd + $2.00 3rd = $8.00 for 3 auctions ect. I need to pay my help."
I AM SO STUPID.....I won 5 of his auctions, total came to $44.23 BUT the postage charge of $12 was a little excessive (actual postage was $3.74 + bubble envelope)........but would be pallettable if they were sent priority, but they were not.
I guess I'm feeling a little cheated & I'll remember the member & stay away from his little enterprise of paying for his help through excessive postage.

I guess I would expect that from some someone else, not a board member.
But you're right & I will learn from it.
Yes It is a little excessive.
$4.00 + $2.00 to put a coin in the same mailer with another coin is a bit much.
I charge 4.00 for the first item, all other items (won or purchased) are added free of charge! Insurance is additional usually 1.30 (2.20 if for a higher value coin) Even if I had "Help" I would not charge 2.00 for Each additional Item!

I wouldn't mind helping out a dealer... would be a nice work experience, hopefully it would be something I could enjoy...

Just add 1.00/auction for the new tire fund...I'm sure they will understand!

I wish I got paid $8 for twenty minutes of work.
I saw that but didn't bite. I did buy 9 proof sets ("unopened" - will see) that cost me $12.00 in shipping after the "discount". I really don't understand why they have to do that. Why not be honest and just charge the actual mailing cost. When I sell on ebay (haven't sold coins but sold a bunch of other stuff), I post the shipping will be actual plus a one dollar handling fee. The one dollar fee covers one or a hundred items. So, if you buy a hundred items, the fee is actual postage plus $1.00.
I now try to email all the vendors ahead of time to see what their mailing cost is on combining several wins. If they don't response, I don't bid. Believe or not, I have had some tell me there is no break for multiple wins. $4.95 or each. I told them to get a life.
You knew the shipping charges in advance. Most people take shipping into account when figuring out their total cost. If this number is less than what your willing to pay, where's the probelm?
If the total cost after adding the shipping is more than you are willing to pay, DON'T BUY (and don't gripe).
Joe.
Look at it this way.
Had you not bid 25c more on the other 4 coins, the seller would have gotten an extra $2 from another buyer, so the seller actually loses $1.75 x 4 = $6.50 by combining the shipping. eBay and PayPal fees remain the same, and all it really saves the seller is 37c.
If you didn't think the coins were a good value for your bid + $2, you shouldn't have bid on them
