MLB is stopping companies from making 1/1's?

Just got this note from one of my wholesalers:

WE ARE ALSO UPDATING SP AUTHENTIC BASEBALL FOR 2004. UPPER DECK HAS MADE HUGE CHANGES. THEY ALREADY HAD 2 NUMBERED ROOKIES A BOX, 2 ALL STARS, 2 NUMBERED AUTOGRAPHS AND ALL OF THEIR OTHER SP INSERTS. NOW THEY'VE ADDED A ONE OF ONE GAME DATED MOMENT CARD TO EACH CASE. THERE'S A PICTURE OF A ICHIRO CARD RIGHT ON THE MAIN PAGE OF OUR WEB-SITE. THEY'VE JUST ADDED HUNDREDS OF ONE OF ONE AUTOGRAPHS TO THE PRODUCTION. ROUGHLY ONE IN 3 CASES WILL HAVE A ONE OF ONE AUTOGRAPH TO GO ALONG WITH THE ONE OF ONE GAME DATED MOMENT. THE LEAGUE HAS RULED THAT THERE WILL BE NO MORE ONE OF ONE GAME USED MEMORABILIA CARDS OR AUTOGRAPHS PER CASE. THIS IS THE BEST ODDS YOU'RE GOING TO SEE, MAYBE FOREVER!!!!

Has anyone heard this? I'm glad to see it happen (especially after the 30-50 Diamond Kings 1/1's per player), but it just seems strange that MLB would take over and do this. Any comments?

yeah, Im sure they are aimed at people who stamp 1/1 themselves. Like it or not, diamond kings sold
like hot cakes, which makes everyone happy. Bang for the buck is good, but I though UD didn't wear
that hat? Perhaps they feel the breath on their backs!

    about time they woke up!

It's kind of ambiguous. You could take this "THE LEAGUE HAS RULED THAT THERE WILL BE NO MORE ONE OF ONE GAME USED MEMORABILIA CARDS OR AUTOGRAPHS PER CASE." to mean they will allow the odds per case of pulling a 1/1 to go no lower than 1 in 3 or whatever. I think the "per case" is the key. But you could be right too, it's just not written clearly enough to know for sure.

  • hey jason,

is the 1 of 1 a case an auto card or just another base card 1 of 1?

    is it worth preordering any?

    opinions

    thanks

  • JasonJames,

Not sure if I['m going to order it, a few of the key players that had AUTO's from last year were taken out and there's nothing to excite me in the rookie field. I would probably order it if I hadn't ordered like ten other products all at about the same time,

Forget the ballpeen hammer, I'd prefer to take a sledgehammer to the back of one or the other's heads, then drag their prone, bleeding bodies around the aisles of the National on a victory lap. But then again I tend not to mince words.

  • The Bowman Chrome baseball solicitation is coming out next week (easy money). The Playoff Honors baseball and Topps All Time Fan Favorites look like good buys, Jason
