Uh oh, another toned Frankie!

I have a friend who posts over on RCC who is into Franklin halves. He sent this into PCGS, who has just graded it a 64.

  • Hey thanks Eric. I was on my way over here to make my very first post and see you beat me to it image
I can't wait to get this coin back!
Here is some background info on the coin. I acquired it from a guy who said that he purchased it from a small mom & pop shop in Ohio. He said that it resided in a whitman folder type set and that the owner said it has sat in there for the past 40 years or so. He said that most of the other coins were toned black.

Been a member for almost a full year but have been a lurker. I haven't spent much time on these boards but what I see is mostly advanced discussion. You know I like to chew the fat a bit and that is mainly why I stick to RCC .... no moderator and you can say what you feel like saying. The drawback though is that with no moderator the trolls come out of the wood work!
Thanks again and thanks to everyone who has had all the nice things to say about my new beauty.

Hmmm....The 64 grade was a "bump" for the obverse color; the reverse almost looks AU to me.

I'm no expert but I think that what you see as wear on the reverse is nothing more then a weakly struck lower left quadrant of the bell.

  • Delish coin Lucy! I was hoping that you'd see my coin. Like I said, I have lurked here for almost a year and I have followed many of your posts because we share a love of Franklins. Your pocket book must belarger then mine though because you sure have some decent stuff that you have shared!

Hi Jason! Now you know where I've posting for the last year or so, instead of r.c.c. - I find I can get in less trouble here. image

If you think of it turn on your PM function. Then go look for the new beauty I posted here this afternoon.

Edited to add P.S.: Eric introduced me to this place, too.
Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.

I am starting to see more and more of the RCCers here....
PS...blame Eric for me being here as well. image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • That sure is a purdy colorful toner....

I like it over here because they have the open forum for those who want to duke it out over politics. For the most part, the US coin forum stays pretty much on topic. It is also much easier to share pictures here, instead of having to produce a link for people to click on.

Glad I don't have to grade Frankies -- I would have misgraded this one for sure.
    I brake for ear bars.
  • I have another toned 63 but it's not dramatic. I has been sitting in the display holder that I bought it in about 5 years ago and it is starting to acquire a rainbow toned rim. It's not too pretty yet but I figure in about 15 more years or so it might be image

Well I think I just turned that function on but I don't know for sure. I don't know how to use it.
  • Now, that second one is some photo! Neat shot!

Yeah, for some reason, oh, I can't imagine why...a moderated troll-free atmosphere appeals to me right about now!
