I won't reveal where these prices were extracted, but I will say that they came from a nationally known dealer's web site. The prices seem waaaaaay high. Just thought I would share a few of the prices listed:

Item:
1840-1857 Braided Hair Large Cent, Fine
Item Price:
$60.00

Item:
1864-1873 Two Cent Piece, Good
Item Price:
$45.00

Item:
1942 Liberty Walking Half Dollar, Very Fine
Item Price:
$15.95

..........just to list a few. The 2 Cent pieces are listed at 4X Red Book prices.

Just wait for the 50% off sale, so you can buy them at 2x Red Book.

Perfectly legal. I can ask for a million dollars for a junk penny if I want. That does not mean I will get the price I asked for it.

  • "Is this legal?" was a rhetorical question. I guess the better question would be "how can these people sleep at night?" On the flip side, I hear that they pay well for coins and only buy quality coins.

It would be down right unamerican NOT to over charge for this type of merchandise!

  • Kennedy Mint? They overprice more than Littleton.
  • I looked at my Kennedy Mint catalog that I got in the mail today and the Large Cents dating from 1842-1856 were priced at $40 in F condition, the same as what you said they were. However the price for the 1942 Walking Liberty Half Dollar in VF was $20, so it couldn't be the one you were talking about.I will look at the Littleton website now to see if that was who you were talking about.
  • Yeah, it was Littleton.I checked there website. The same exact price for the coins he listed.

They ripped me off once, when I was first beginning collecting. However I did make a small gain from them, bought a 2004 SAE for $6.95, shipping included.
  • Legal all the way, if they can keep selling them why not.
