    I copied this list from:
    http://www.beckett.com/news/index2.asp?a=4986&s=1

    The short prints are:

#1 Jose Reyes, New York Mets
#13 Vernon Wells, Toronto Blue Jays
#20 Scott Rolen, St. Louis Cardinals
#35 Brian Giles, San Diego Padres
#50 Eric Gagne, Los Angeles Dodgers
    #51 Ichiro, Seattle Mariners
    #60 Richie Sexson, Arizona Diamondbacks
    #80 Sammy Sosa, Chicago Cubs
    #87 Raul Ibanez, Seattle Mariners
    #100 Mark Prior, Chicago Cubs
#108 David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox
    #109 Austin Kearns, Cincinnati Reds
    #126 Mark Teixeira, Texas Rangers
    #145 Rich Harden, Oakland A’s
    #163 Brandon Webb, Arizona Diamondbacks
    #165 Marcus Giles, Atlanta Braves
#166 Angel Berroa, Kansas City Royals
#167 Rocco Baldelli, Tampa Bay Devil Rays
#172 Bo Hart, St. Louis Cardinals
    #175 Javy Lopez, Baltimore Orioles
#179 Delmon Young, Tampa Bay Devil Rays
#182 Jeremy Reed, Chicago White Sox
    #184 Casey Kotchman, Anaheim Angels
    #186 Joe Mauer, Minnesota Twins
#192 B.J. Upton, Tampa Bay Devil Rays
#193 Khalil Greene, San Diego Padres
    #195 Rickie Weeks, Milwaukee Brewers
#196 Zack Greinke, Kansas City Royals
#198 Vito Chiaravalloti, Toronto Blue Jays
#200 Jon Knott, San Diego Padres
    #206 Kyle Sleeth, Detroit Tigers
#209 Lastings Milledge, New York Mets
#210 Rudy Guillen, New York Yankees
#211 Blake Hawksworth, St. Louis Cardinals
    #214 Erick Aybar, Anaheim Angels
#216 Tim Stauffer, San Diego Padres
    #220 Josh Beckett, Florida Marlins
    #226 Miguel Cabrera, Florida Marlins
#232 Derek Jeter, New York Yankees
#236 Jorge Posada, New York Yankees

There are also 10 short-printed variations:

Alex Rodriguez (short print has #17 on back)
#3 Albert Pujols (short print has him swinging)
#25 Jim Thome (short print is fielding)
#95 Gary Sheffield (short print is Yankees)
#140 Curt Schilling (short print is Red Sox)
#178 Edwin Jackson (short print has #104 on back, same as Kevin Brown)
#181 Felix Pie (short print has #80 on back, same as Sammy Sosa)
#201 Dioner Navarro (short print has #236 on back, same as Jorge Posada)
#224 Ivan Rodriguez (short print is Tigers)
#229 Jason Giambi (short print has him fielding)

Finally, there are three non-short-printed variations:

#55 Dick Hoblitzel/Dick Hoblitzell (correct spelling)
#66 Nap La Joie/Nap Lajoie (correct spelling)
#86 Burt Shotten/Burt Shotton (correct spelling)

Collectors will quickly note that some of the card backs on the Topps Cracker Jack cards are upside down. Topps purposely did this to replicate the 1915 Cracker Jacks, when the cards could be stuck into albums. When a collector in that era would lift the card in the album, it appeared right side up.

    A few other quirky notes:

In the original set, the championship teams appeared at the end of the set. That’s why the Yankees and Marlins are found at the end of the Topps release.
Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria has his own card. An owner with a card? Again, a nod to history as the original Cracker Jacks featured White Sox owner Charles Comiskey so Topps included the owner of the world champion Marlins.
In 1915, Cracker Jack provided some young ballplayers – the prized prospects of the day – the same card number as bigger stars had in the 1914 set. That’s why Navarro, Jackson and Pie have short-printed cards with the same card # as a major league star.
As collectors will see, reprint cards of Comiskey and Connie Mack feature the owner and manager in street clothes. Topps followed suit, using pictures of Yankees manager Joe Torre and Marlins manager Jack McKeon in ties.

thanks envoy! thats exactly what i was looking for.. so far in the first 10 packs ive pulled 2 "take me out to the ballgame" used jerseys of Alex rodriguez and Mike piazza.. dont know about the sp's yet
    ·p_A·
  • I bought a box of these this past weekend and had a lot of fun opening them up. I pulled a Rich Harden jersey card and a Luis Castillo autograph redemption. I did not get any duplicates, and I managed about 5-6 short prints, including the Sheffield variation. I'm considering trying to assemble the set.
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
No problem. I actually ripped a box of this cuz I got it for $44. Fun to open and I sold the Javier Vazquez auto I pulled for $25. I had quite a few sp's and they are a neat looking card. Reminds me a lot of heritage which I actually had a lot of fun putting together oddly enough. Now if I could just sell that damn set I'd be happy. image

Oh, and I only got one dupe out of my cracker jack box too, nice collation if you ask me. Especially for a set builder.
  • My wife and I bought 5 packs of these, and I was really underwhelmed with the quality. There wasn't a single pack that didn't have at least one damaged card in it, and one pack had a bunch of "roller-marked" cards like what we kept seeing with Heritage.

The good: Pulling jersey cards like crazy.

The bad: Pulling damaged jersey cards. One with 3 dinged corners, one with one just plain ugly corner. The "secret toy surprise" packs just aren't kind on their contents.

I just opened a box of these this evening and pulled a Marcus Giles jersey. I then traded it to the shop owner for a Larry Walker jersey card from the set. This will be my set to build for this year. Collation seemed pretty good tooimage

    Steve
  • I bought a few packs of these today to check them out. Got the Larry Walker jsy card. Over all I was not particularly impressed with the cards. Kinda flimsy stock imo, and Im personally feeling the vintage card theme for newer cards is starting to get burnt out.

Pretty sure I found an error on card #86 Bert Shotten. Read back youll find...

"....was born at Elyria,Ohio, in 1887. In 1997 Shotten started his professional ball playing..."

If that aint an error it sure took him a helluvalong time to start playing ball =)

    Hey Guys,
As you know myself and JoeStalin are two of the biggest Heritage fans on the face of the earth! I did buy 2 boxes of CJ from Kuhlmann at a good price and like the cards - I have some roller type marks on some but I will return them to topps.
Now, who wants to TRADE! It will be a bit easier to complete this set - so let the pm's start - I will be looking at my want list after I purchase another box - I understand retail is out and will look on Wed. As others may attest - I think I'm a fair trader.

I got my case today, and just finished ripping box #4. The cards are really cool. I have no idea what I have and need yet, but if anyone wants to trade pm me.
Its sure a lot different that picking up 1 or 2 cards at a time for a vintage set.

    Griffins,
Will be interested to see what you get - I wonder if there will be some kind of a 'case card' - I think the whites are 1/1. I've opened 3 hobby boxes and averaged 2 inserts per box: Vazquez blue auto, Wood, Sosa, Piazza gu and Tejada bat. The collation is way better than Heritage. But, there are enough sp's to make it interesting. You should have no problem putting a base set/sp's together. Now, a master set is another thing. And, anyone trying to put the blues together better have a whole lotta $! Good luck on your pulls. Hope you get something really interesting. Please let me know how you do.

5 boxes in. 5 to go, if they all get opened (which I doubt they will) My son and I are splitting the case, but he seems to be pulling all the GU cards- never more than 2 per box. So far its only been jersey's and bats. In my half I have almost a full basic set, haven't started collating the smaller cards yet. I've got a handful of the blue mini cards (are these anything?). The distribution seems really good- I've got a similar amount of dupes, and the sp's are all equally as scarce.
All in all I'm really happy with the set- I collect vintage (pre WW2, and mostly pre WW1 and 19th century) but this is really fun. My son loves that he has some of the same cards I have in my '14-15 Cracker Jack sets. I guess I'm holding hope for a real CJ, but I'm sure it will be pretty low grade, and a common at that. I've yet to see a "case" card, and have no idea what a white card is. Perhaps someone can fill in the facts for this remedial modern pack ripper.

    Hey,
I opened a few packs of these and liked them. I pulled a Soriano jsy. card, and a regular A-rod. However, it does not have a card number on the back like all the others. Any idea what the deal is here? Is it an error?

    Thanks,
    Jeff
  • I think the short print has number 17 on the back.

Is that the case? I just think that its weird that there is no card number on it and every other card of mine does???

In the '14 set Bresnahan has a variation, with and without the number. Topps is trying to emulate some of the quirks of that set- including variations, the fact that the backs of the '15's are printed upside down, etc. I've got 8 without the number on back (of the 2004) and none with, after opening 6 boxes.
Both of my '14 Bresnahans (the inventor of the shin guard, btw and a Hall of Famer) have the number on the back.

wow...a bunch of people on this set! Topps has another hit! I bought a retail box (8packs I think) and
pulled two jerseys! Anyone sniff a white background yet?

    Kevin,

I opened three hobby boxes and didn't get any white backs, but did get four blue backs.

yeah the whites are 1/1's and are selling for crazy amounts on ebay. I pulled a IRod/Tigers
blue back a few weeks ago.

I"ve opened 12 boxes so far and not a single white back. Olberman seems to be all over them when they come up on ebay.
So far I've only gotten 1 auto. GU stuff is 2 per box, but I"ve gotten 3 on a couple of boxes and 1 on one box. I'm still several short of a full set. Very little duplication on the mini cards and stickers, and virtually none on the blue cards.
Has anyone gotten a real cracker jack card yet?

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

The only auto I have gotten is a NY Vazquez. Some blue sp's tho. The whites - heck - I feel like I got a better chance of being hit by lightning! I would like to trade on the sp's tho - I plan on buying a few more boxes of retail if I can find them - my target only had loose packs. At toysrus a retail for 20$ w/8 packs is a bargain.

So you are doing a set of these? I didn't buy a lot but you are welcome to anything I pulled.

    Thanx Kevin
I will let you know when the smoke clears. The sp's are not as plentiful as the heritage retail packs. Hope they keep the same tradition with next year's heritage - personally I am looking forward to both 05 and 06!
I know that is way in the future. Right now, I feel snake bitten as a Braves fan. And, am already looking forward to Raider's camp later this summer!

I have opened 13 boxes (3 retail, 10 hobby) and have gotten no white, 33 blues and 22 G/U. I also have 5 autos (including a dupe on Podsednik, if anyone wants to trade autos). One auto was different, It was on a Mini insert with a holo on the back and "Certified Autograph Issue" on the front (#226). The others are Secret Surprise Signatures.

I feel pretty good about the haul.

    Hey Mike,

Did you ever get the last group of chromes I sent a while back? I never heard but assumed you had.

Yes, thanx buddy! With all the boxes you opened, did you find some commons that were hard to fill - one thing about commons from Topps - they can collate like sp's! That's the challenge tho. You can 6 of one common and none of another.

Is the Alex Rodriguez Cracker Jack card supposed to be missing the card number on the back?

It's actually a variation. The common version has no number and the rare version is #17.

  • I was wondering if ebay user cincykid61 reads the boards here. He is kicking my butt on CJ auctions for the last couple of weeks. I am hoping he/she is to completing the set, lol.
