Calling all Brit copper specialists.

Wybrit, Lloyd, etal.,

Has anyone ever reported this type of overdate? It's an 1856 VYH 1/2 d. This is the one Wybrit has dibs on in 2023.... image

Not the best image, but the 8 & 6 are slightly doubled, but the 5 took quite a hike south. Maybe one too many tots, eh Lloyd?

Note also the heavy legend doubling on VICTORIA & GRATIA.

I'd appreciate it if anyone has any info. Cheers, Mac

Nice halfpenny. There are so many varieties, doublings and errors on copper pieces that there is probably little hope of categorizing all of them save for the most commonly seen ones. I have not seen this error reported. I own three 1855 halfpennies and each has a different looking date.

The doubled five is pretty pronounced compared to what I have seen, but I doubt it will get a special designation unless the Colin Cooke of halfpennies (whoever that may be, maybe it is Colin now!) steps in and calls it an official variety.
