Shady retail heritage box

Went out to Target today and picked up a Heritage Retail box. The 10 packs plus 1 extra for $29.99.

The box looked fine. Had the original cellophane. Looked just like every other one i bought. Got home to open it up and what do i find?
8 packs of 2003 Topps Traded and Rookies and 3 packs of 2003 Bowman heritage. Every pack was precisely opened on the bottom and filled with 90,91,and 92 Topps commons.
I can't beleive this! I got a little bit hot, but had to laugh.
How in the hell did this happen. Was a Topps employee screwing around on break?
Anyone have this happen to them?
What do i do? Call up Topps and tell them or try to return the box at Target?
Just had to let everyone know about my little experience.

    sadly, this happens a lot.
    the scammers buy the boxes,
carefully cut, switch, and reseal the boxes
then Return them to target/walmart/etc for refund.
and do it again with new boxes somewhere else.

    Ben,
This was reported this year before. I recommend you return it to the Target store - he/she may be incredulous but I will be disappointed if they don't take your side. They are a big company and don't want to lose your business over 30$. Good luck - let us know what happens.

  • Ben,
Was the cellophane imprinted with Topps logo? I bought a box at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago and it was pre-busted. The idiot that broke my box at least put Heritage back in it w/o all the sps and chromes instead of your guy who put whatever he felt like back into it. I returned my box the day I bought it and was pretty steamed. They gave me my money back. The box that I bought wasn't imprinted with the Topps logo. I didn't even think anything when I bought it. I'm just getting back into collecting and was not aware of this type of scam that these crooks are pulling. If Wal-Mart/Target/KMart had any sense they would track who buys these boxes. If they are bought through credit/debit card bust these people for robbery, I guess it's pocket change for them though. I couldn't laugh it off when it happened to me because there is someone out there making $$$ off this crap and ebay is the outlet. That being said, I hope you get your money back.

  • I got my money back. They didn't even hassle me at all. Plus they didn't even care that this kind of crap was going on. I told the teenager at customer service that they should do something about this. At least put some stickers across them. Crooks are making some decent money off this for free.
It's sad that people in this hobby stoop this kinda level. And i used to hold a grudge for the nerd measuring packs with calipers. I didn't even think about the Topps logo being on the cellophane.
Oh well, learn something new everyday. Thanks for letting me vent!

  • Glad to hear you got your money back. What sucks is that I'm sure there are kids out there buying this stuff and they open all this pre-opened garbage without the chance to find chrome, auto, etc. I noticed KMart has a little sign that says "no returns on boxes" or something to that effect. This is probably the best way to go about it.
