$1,000 camera? NOPE.. $300? NOPE.. $500 NOPE.. $200 NOPE..$100 NOPE..
how about FORTY BUCKS

These scans were done with my HP 3570 scanner in minutes. no software manipulation of the colors no copy stand to hold light bulbs no light diffusers no lens filters no macro lenses no SLR f-stop confusion no digital megapixel confusion no smartcard to worry about

Trying to do super duper mirrored ultra deep cameo pq * coins? might not work, then again it might. I don't own those coins. But for slabbed and raw coins I can't see spending more than $40 when these pictures turn out like this in a minute or less with no fiddling around.

$40 scanner used to do all my pictures on this post (no it's not my auction)
remember this coin is SMALLER THAN A DIME

If you want to see many more pictures i've done in mere minutes check these out

Scans of other coins i've done with the scanner some are MORE THAN A MEG sorry dial uppers

another HALF Dime

Remember all these coins are slabbed so scratches are on the slabs

<< <i>I'm using a $100 camera... from picture to Forums takes only a couple minutes... and actually, for me, it takes about 5-10 minutes for me to get a scan of a coin, where it only takes me a couple minutes to get the pictures up from my camera. Here's my set-up and a couple pictures...

Somethings not quite right here. JR, you're photos are REAL nice and you say the camera was 100 bucks? Would you mind letting us know what kind it is? Any optional features? How much did your set up cost ( sans the milk crateimage )

How difficult was it to set up and learn how to use? I really want to get set up for this but am a photo dummy. image

Meanwhile I did a quick search on the HP above and the reviews are not very good. ( the prices are higher) But that doesn't jive with the photos you're showing mrdq. We have a visioneer one touch 9320 usb, which I paid more than 200 bucks for at comp USA and we haven't been able to get copies as nice as that morgan dollar. What may I ask are you doing in order to get that so nice? Photoshop?

I was ready to buy one, but then my wife stopped me and said "ask questions" so.....I am.

Thanks a bunch for your replies and help.

    from my original post

no software manipulation of the colors no copy stand to hold light bulbs no light diffusers no lens filters no macro lenses no SLR f-stop confusion no digital megapixel confusion no smartcard to worry about

I don't know if it's HP making better scanners or what but I just went to EBAY and typed in +hp +scanner, listed the FIRST ONE I SAW in my post so there must be more.

I'm telling you it's this easy:
    1. put coin on the scanner glass
    2. push ONE BUTTON
    3. go to your pictures folder and look at the picture

    my settings are never touched
    SHARPEN: Extreme
    RESOLUTION: 600 dpi (i'm not even using 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 DPI settings!!!)
NO color balancing, whitening, RGB blah blah blah

lift the lid, place the coin, push the button

If you still don't believe me you're invited to my house for a free demo and i'll even supply lunch (subway) and dessert (DQ)

Did you check out the other pics?

I've done the camera thing here's my copy stand and lighting (blurry not intentionally i just snapped it on the fly)

I've used olympus SLR 35mm camera, Olympus digital 370, olympus 380, nikon 3500, Sony mavica d70 so i'm not saying that I started with this scanner and haven't tried anything else. I've been into photography for 20 years as a hobby and I think, for the money, I won't use camera's anymore for coins since I discovered the scanner quality and simplicity

    Gold coin for fun
