SUPERIOR vs MASTRO vs EBAY

Since I am starting to see quite a few high grade cards bought last month in the Superior auction already popping up on EBAY, are these sellers making the statement that "EBAY is the BEST auction house and the prices attained through ebay are the highest?"

Perhaps they are just selling cards they believe that got a good deal on at Superior. In my opinion, I don't remember one good deal to be had in the Superior auction, especially with the buyers premium!

  • I disagree with that, I was able to purchase a Rhodes #1 1955 topps psa 8 (smr 600) w/ premium for $413.00 from superior's auction...$187 below smr...I consider that a great deal...No, I am not selling it, its for my collection
  • Deals can be found in the Superior Auctions here and there. . .about a year ago I picked up a 72 Greenwood RC PSA 10 for about $100 with the buyer fee. But there are not many - Jeremy

  • One factor to consider at least for our doing this is the "branding" and customer acquisition aspects of ebay. We look for bargains of course but also for cards that are less often seen on ebay as a way to draw more customers to our auctions and ultimately to our web site. For the most part, I'm happy even to break even on these (or even take a slight loss) since they lead to follow-on business.

To the point, I'd offer ebay is more of a buyers market - since the absolute cut-off time doesn't permit "head-to-head" bidding such as the catalog auctions which go on until all hours of the night. It's also a fairer guage of demand and card prices since the auctions lack the "hype" or "prestige" or whatever you call it that makes a catalog auction bidder pay more for a card than it sells for weekly on ebay. We saw many examples of that in the Superior auction including the end of the book section with 57, 58 and some of the 71s.

  • it is common to buy on ebay and sell the item for a profit right back on ebay or in superior and certainly in mastro.

it is also possible to buy an item in superior and sell the item for a profit on ebay or in mastro.

it is certain that you will lose up to 50% buying an item in mastro and selling it on ebay or superior.
