..""""ACCUGRADE WAS RATED #1 AS THE MOST CONSISTENT GRADING SERVICE BASED ON THE NOVEMBER 17, 2003 ISSUE OF COIN WORLD REGARDING THEIR RECENT SURVEY."""""""""""""
Anyone have a copy of this article????? Unless it's taken out of context and REALLY means that Accugrade is the most consistent GARBAGE in plastic holders
The Coin World article was an analysis of a blind test done by Coin World in May 2003. The writer tried to use scientific extrapolations to determine the consistency of each grading company. The problem was that Shelton's 1-70 grading scale is not linear, and so this writer tried to create a linear scale so that he could extrapolate the results. This was not successful because you can't make the scale linear by placing the same value to each grade. Whereas the Shelton scale provides for only 4 points for the "good" and "VG" grades, it provides 8 points for the "Fine" grade, 10 for "VF", and so on, but only one point spread between each mint state grade. So when this writer tried to create a linear scale, it skewed the entire results and made it totally unreliable. The other problem was that the original test used many common circulated coins and several "problem" coins that the better services would not grade. The test also did not include series of coins that are difficult to grade due to issues such as strike, etc. The test by Coin World was a really good start on an idea that someone should extend, but the writer's attempt to analyze the data was very flawed. This was clearly apparent when he concluded that ACG was more consistent than PCGS. Gary
Consistent just means that all results are similar, not necessarily accurate
If a hypothetical grading service were to grade all coins MS67-MS70 (not that any hypothetical grading service would, of course), or grade an MS61 coin MS69 every time it was resubmitted, they would be remarkably consistent. Accuracy is another matter.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."
In the Stuppler hearings, Hager tried to use the defense that ACG uses it's own grading standards. On the other hand, he quotes CU prices. Guess those standards have reverted back now?
Eric, I presume you've printed out this auction for future use.

That says a great deal about Coin World, doesn't it?

What can you expect from the owner of Accugrade???

Better. I have archived over 600 auctions in the last couple of years saved as PDF files. Someone else can wear out their printer.
