Jon Rosenthal (Tonelover) is a STUD -- Just started my new W. Raymond Type Set

I just had to thank Jon for this coin! I love it and it will begin my Wayte Raymond Type Set Album. Anyone care to guess the grade from PCGS?

And it's going right here --- Type 6

I'm sure I'll be purchasing many more coins from Jon -- he's got a great eye for nice "original skin" types of coins!

  • Very nice coin. I will guess it grades EF-45. I am probably wrong but it is still a very nice coin no matter what its grade is.image

XF45??? I would be shocked if it is any less than AU55. My guess is AU58.
  • Hey, I said that I was probably wrong about my grade. It probably is graded at least AU-55. You can't always guess the right grades.image

I understand. Seated coinage isn't my speciality either, but there is plenty of luster on this coin and I can only see what looks like slight rubs in a few spots.

Bingo ---- PCGS AU58. Eric called it perfectly!

Second contest --- Guess the price of the coin in the following years --1930 & 1969?

It's amazing how coins increase in value!

I love those old holders! I am a fan of the Whitman Bookshelves and have found myself creating sets based on those. My latest is a Bust half "Whitman" set in VF/EF . . . now I just need that &%$*& 1815/2!

P.S. I am surprised the coin was slabbed as a 58, I though it would have been in a 62 holder. Not that it looks MS, but I have seen a lot of similar coins market graded as 62. Good for PCGS!

Jon is da bomb - if you ever get a chance to see some of his SLQ's do so - they're amazing!

Frattlaw - How did you do in the PCGS grading competition?

Hey, no fair. For once I was going to be right about the grade in these games, but Fratlaw pulled the trigger at 4 in the morning.

Just about the time of the last Long Beach show, my business exploded and I had to give the whole coin thing a rest while I worked a bunch on the firm. So I didn't even go to the show, no less take the David Hall Challenge. I'm still open to it for the next show in June, but I'm not sure if I missed my "golden opportunity." David hasn't contacted me so I don't know ---

Hey David if you reading this -- can I still play in June?
