Dopey question...

I'm not even really sure what my question is...

Well, I haven't been to a coin show in a really long time, and I'm planning on going to the upcoming Central States coin show in Milwaukee. I have recently added a few bucks to my coin fund, and the coins I kind of have on my wish list are nice (65-66)Connecticut, Bridgeport or Stone Mountain halves, probably two of the three. Looking around at various reputable dealers' websites, I have found some nice ones that I probably wouldn't mind owning.

Should I just buy them now, or wait to see what I might find at the coin show? I'm really not sure what kinds of dealers are going to be there...do you think that these coins I have mentioned are common enough that I would find several at the show? What would you do?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

you will probably see those exact coins for sale at the show. I have found prices on the bourse are sometimes lower than online. However the coins might sell before the show and you might miss them.

All I can really say is to be patient and wait till the show. You may kick yourself if you spend your money right now.

If you like the coins and they are appropriately priced, then buy them. Many a times I have passed on great coins hoping to get a "better deal" at a show only to be disappointed by the coins at the show. To add insult to my injury . . . I would return to pick up those gems that I bypassed only to learn they were sold.

Life is too short to pass up on those coins you need in order to save a few lousy bucks.

Go to the show. I saw several Connecticuts in higher grades. One I'm still kicking myself for not buying.

  • I would wait and see what's available at Central States. I live in Milwaukee so I'll be there at least two days. It's a decent show with a good number of dealers. If you don't find what you like, you can always go back to the websites you mentioned. Personally, I think it's a lot more fun to buy "in person" and, of course, you have the coin in hand rather than judging it from a pic.

Hope to meet/see many of the board members there!
