Rosy FB Designation: What a difference 1 year makes!

PCGS has been designating Rosy dimes for 1 year and 2 weeks (effective 4-1-03). There are about 766 MS67FB SILVER designated dimes and 19 MS68FB SILVER designated dimes...no doubt some of these were "as graded" coins and some were FB designation coins. Seems to me the run rate has slowed a bit since mid last year but still, PCGS has made about 65 MS67/68FB SILVER coins per month. I know I've been trying and have made about 10% of those coins (ok, 10% of the MS67FB' and 5% of the MS68FB coins).
So where do you think this will be at this time next year? And will D. Biddle submit his HOARD of dimes for FB - and if so, what will that do to the pops? Inquiring minds want to know. Will more FB coins boost the collector base or deterioriate the value? Your thoughts...

The latter may not be an "or" question...I think that the collector base will grow regardless of the FB count, but many, many more FBs may lower some date's values. Danny's large collection of quality ms67s may indeed produce many FBs in time, and probably some nice 68s (FB or not), but will probably be somewhat "spread" throughout the series, and not negatively affect prices measurably if at all, as he probably has quite a variety of most available dates.
all his dimes for review and see what they do to the pops.

I can't believe some of the prices for some of the dates. I won't be specific, but I have seen a few FB dimes in 7 and 8 sell for loads of green, that would have sold for alot less w/o the FB in the same grade. I believe even though some dates-M/M's have, it will be another 2-3 years before prices start to level out.
I still will bet ya that it will be years before there is a 100% complete set of clads in FB! Best of wishes to Nick, Rick, and Danny B.
(where ever you are!) If anyone can do it, its 1 of these guys!

will eventually outstrip them by a wide margin.
The rate at which they are slabbed will more reflect the growth of the market than the
number in existence for several years yet.
Only a few years ago it was very difficult to find serious collectors for either of these
coins and now there are substantially more collectors who are putting sets together
for themselves, the registries, or posterity. There are coins out there.

There should be a FB or nearly FB coin among them.
If you can find rolls, there are reputed to be a few here also.
Good luck. Happy hunting.

I doubt D. Biddle will effect the FB total drastically. I haven't seen his coins but from viewing countless Roosie's, I doubt he really has that many full bands.
IMHO, the Roosie market has cooled considerably since Nick sold out. I myself am heading to full step Jeffersons. Does that tell you something?
Ron
by this time PCGS will have graded at least 100 MS68FB silver Roosies and MS67FB's would be a
dime a dozen. Seeing as many Roosies as I have I never thought there could even be 100 MS68FB
silver Roosies out there. I am a little surprised as to how few FB Roosies have been graded, they
are far more difficult to locate then I had anticipated. The big surprise to me is how difficult the
1963P & D have been to slab in FB let alone a 67FB.
The market ran way up and now seems to have tapered off and leveled out. Some obvious key dates
have developed in FB. The 1953P has only 3 graded in MS67FB. These 3 coins were made within the
first couple months of the program and have remained at the top of the pop charts with no other MS67FB's
made. The 55P has sat with 4 MS67FB's for the longest time. I'm discounting the rarity of the 54S and
55S in 67FB only because quite a few have been made in the undergrades. I always thought the 56P
would end up as the key date but I was wrong there. I've seen to many MS66FB 57P and 58P's and
suspect its only a matter of time before we see several MS67FB's made. Right now the 63D is looking like
the stopper to me. I have seen so few in FB for all grades. Roosies still need at least 3 more years to
mature, and IMHO many potential collectors are sitting on the sideline until that time.
I am having a lot of fun with the clads and feel it is a far more difficult series to complete in FB then the silvers.
There are a few dates that could turn out to be stoppers for the series and never produce an FB. It
seems to me that there is far more interest on the collector side in the clads then there is for the silvers
at this time. There is definitely far more available clad dimes then silver dimes to hunt through looking
for the high grade FB's. This is a very fun series with a lot of potential and a lot of risk.
Well a year has come and gone and I too was skeptical at first about FB. looking back I think is has been great
for the series and a great move on PCGS part. If you'r having fun with your collection with time everything
else will fall in place.
Roosies are a great series to collect and have some fun with them.

I owe you big time.
I had a bet with Craig that there would be a complete MS67FB set registered by year end. 2003
year end that is. Well that didn't happen, and there are still 3 dates without an MS67FB made.
Craig, I'll payoff this summer. I have something special planned and guarantee it will be well
worth the wait.

Mistercoinman, Waldo, and myself will be very hungry this summer!

When I return in May, I hope to submit -- for the first time -- for full band designation, a whole bunch of really, really nice Roosies. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm hoping to get a few 68 full banders.
Enjoy!
Just having fun!
<< <i>Yes, the full band designation has made the Roosies a lot more fun to collect. They were a boring series -- too easy -- before the designation. This makes it a challenge. >>
I agree that it is very good that the fb8s are tough, and really helps the series, but...
I do think they weren't all that boring when a pop.1 ms67 was born, way, way, way back when...
I'll bet you're right Mr. Registry Coin. But you obviously were into Roosies long before me. By the time I found my way there, there weren't many pop1 MS67. Alas. And the set was boring. The only interesting ways to collect were (a) Color (b) going after the MS68s and (c) seeing if the NGC MS68s and 69s had much chance of crossing. And that was limited and limiting. Full banding has opened the series up as a fun collectible.
Best wishes,
Just having fun!
