Orlando Coin Show. Six hours to prepare?

At 2:00 pm this afternoon, I was notified by the bourse chairman at the Orlando Show that there was a cancellation for a table.

Never having a table at a show before, I was (and still am) completely unprepared.

However, I hope everyone will stop by and give me some encouragement this weekend. I will be at a table near the Club Exhibits, probably H1 or H2. Bourse Map

You'll be able to recognize me...I'll have the bewildered look on my face! image

Greysheets, loupe, tell bourse chairman how many cases you'll need, business cards to hand out, calculator (preferably a printing one), a few pens, a notepad, some snacks/bottled water, paper towels, comfortable shoes. Introduce yourself to your dealer neighbor. You'll each need to keep an eye on the other's table when nature calls.

If you will be buying from the public, take lots of money. People want cash. Either way, take lots of small bills to make change with.

Make sure none of your material behind the table can be reached by people looking at the exhibits off to your side. Remember to lock all your cases and cover them before leaving for the night.

    Have a great show!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    Hi Scott Carlson,

I'll see you there Saturday. I'll be the one with the biggest and best coin exhibit near your table.

  • Wish I could go... but alas... I would only be able to make it on Sunday, and that'd be a waste of time...

    Hey George,
This show is not too bad on Sunday if you come before noon. In the past, the dealers don't really start packing up until 1pm. It is more of a local show so many dealers don't have to catch a plane and fly out. I've made some good buys even at the last hour of the show.

    Good advice there, Kranky.

How was your first day, Scott??
  • Thanks for the advice, everyone!

Today was great! I sold quite a few coins, even some key dates. 1893-S, 1889-CC Morgans, 1942/41 Merc, etc.

The dealer activity was high in the morning. General public seemed kind of light in the afternoon, but hopefully it'll pick up tomorrow.

Met some really nice people (and one jerk, but that's inevitable, I guess) Hope to see more of you tomorrow.

But right now I'm really tired.

    Good night!

    Scott
