Except for Brady... all the others come with baggageor risk of one form or another... gotta go with him! I bet he has at least one more Super Bowl win left!

KEITH - For the reason that Brady won 2 Super Bowls already, I think the investment part may be over as his cards are already high. A good investment is finding that stud player before he kicks ass on the field, and thats not easy...jay
  • I don't think any new cards are good "investments".
If you're collecting new cards to invest, you're in it for the wrong reason.

Point well taken Jay... but aren't all of these in the poll at peak already? Or over-peak if that's possible (see LeBron)... I guess I should have chosen "other"!

Nuggets that may emerge are probably easiest to spot in baseball because you can see them coming a couple years in advance through the minors... toughest is definitely football stars and flops seem to change places every year (ex: Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Eric Dickerson, Tom Brady, Steve Young, etc.)

Baseball unknowns to keep an eye on: Michael Aubrey, Joe Blanton, Ervin Santana, Chris Lubanski...

I guess these types would be the best "investments"...

  • none of the above, those guys are all at peak

  • Michael Aubrey isn't an unknown...I've seen some of his $20 (beckett value) rookies (no auto or gu) selling for $65+ on ebay recently (mainly that runrickiego or whatever his name is buying them)...I'd say people know about him...just check out the selling prices of his 03 PP auto, hard for it to go up much further

I just picked up my 2nd 1998 Tiger Woods Champions of Golf PSA 9 off of Ebay this week. With a pop report of 81 PSA 9's of 8061 graded, I think is a great pickup. SMR lists them @ $1000.00 and I got them for $350.00 each. Just thought these would be nice cards to give my daughters when I'm gone.
  • Best way to go is to pick 3 moderately priced power hitting prospects and just hope that one and possibly two of the three hit in the majors. Aubrey's a pretty good call, but my three right now would be Casey Kotchman (he'll stay healthy at some point I hope, and he has more XBH's than strike outs), alright, well I don't want to tell you my other two right now since I'm still buying, but this philosophy should work. Don't waste time with pitchers anymore, Prior will prove that point in the next year or two (Clemens is one of the 10 best baseball players (not just pitchers) of all time and he's at the lower end of star pricing).
