I purchased a 1984 Donruss Factory Set on March 25th. Paid via paypal right away. The sellers auction stated he sent all orders out within 24 - 48 hours if paypal was the method of payment.
Sent him an e-mail last Wednesday asking status of set. No response received. Sent another e-mail last Saturday - still no response received. Monday of this week I ask why he was not responding to my e-mails and set had still not arrived. Another e-mail ignored.
Set arrived on Tuesday, posmark was for Saturday, April 10. Of course the set was not sent out per his e-bay listing. Sent him another e-mail letting him know I received the set and was not very happy with my e-mails being ignored. He responded promptly only with the response that I should be happy that I received because he had been ripped off plenty of times.
I just wanted to know if their was a problem with the set being mailed, if he had something happen that prevented him from mailing I wouldn't have sweated it. I am debating to leave a neutral or positive with a couple of comments. What would you do?

That's uncalled for. Who is he? If the product is OK, fine, but I would not want to do business with someone like that again.

Thanx, I will avoid him in deference to you. If you notice, he has nothing up right now and only averages about 10 sales/month. So, he could give a rats a$$ about customer service. That would be my take. Still, thanx, for the info. Hope the set was OK.

I'd be interested to know how others on the board feel about this. What are we trying to accomplish with these e-mail communications? Are we trying to get information and improve the general stream of life or are we trying to outdo someone else's perceived inconsideration? It's possible, not likely but possible that the seller was called out of town, didn't check his e-mail, whatever, and figured, when he finally did read the e-mails, that since he'd already sent the package, that would suffice. If that's the case I think he was wrong, but I also think there's a way to get that point across without being accusatory.
I don't know, maybe I'm being too Rodney King.

<< <i>Jay - I hear you loud and clear. His non-respnsiveness to your e-mails was uncalled for. Meaning no disrespect, I am beginning to see where e-mail interaction, especially between buyers and sellers on eBay, is a lot like road rage. You don't know who that other guy (or gal) is, what's going on in their life, etc.; again, meaning no disrespect, I'm just guessing that the e-mail your seller finally responded to was a less-than-friendly one (I'm assuming you didn't start out with "I luv ya, man, but...", you indicated you weren't happy with his shipping and didn't appreciate being ignored) - that would probably put a normally-wired human being on the defensive. I'm not saying it's right, but we have developed a brand new human interaction dynamic that needs its own special rules. I have found that if I don't take an offensive, aggressive approach in an e-mail, I do not get back a defensive and offensive response. I think most people are good, but they are people.

I hear you - My first three e-mails were cordial and non-threatening but after having three e-mails ignored. You tend to get more aggressive with further e-mails.

This is one of those times, I wish I had the exact quote - this would really disappoint me - it's like saying you spent your money, count your lucky stars you got it at all - you could have gotten ripped off.
YOU WOULD NEVER ALLOW SEARS TO SAY THAT TO YOU!!!!!!!!
I will take Jay at his word. So, unless he did say something unsavory, the guy could've apologized for not responding earlier.
If you sell on ebay, I think you take on the reponsibility of a businessperson and should conduct yourself accordingly. Responding to emails in a timely fashion is just plain good business and part of your duty. With all due respect, if someone doesn't see this, they have never attempted to run a business.
Mark, I dealt once with Kane04, he totally ignored my emails until I threatened him with credit card reversal and curt talk about his trimmed card. Even though I believe the guy is a crook, I have never told him that or used any kind of profanity or personal affronts. It's just not in my nature. But people can sure test you when NOT face to face. But I do agree with you - it's best NOT to try to outdo the other in emails - I respect your deference to Jay and his feelings - and I will say, sometimes one can kill someone with kindness.

edit for 3rd grade grammar and clarity
Let's assume even if he was going about nothing and just ignored emails because he didn't feel like going on the computers those days, he could at least pretend he cares for his customer by sending an apology. Being an explicit A-hole is really bad business and will drive others away.
