Are replicas a valid investment?

Even though I do not own any, I have seen advertisements regarding them, and it always seem that the alloy base is poor. Even if they say "COPY", what is the real numismatic value? Personally, I would not want to want to buy or sell such.

Modern replicas no, contemporary electrotypes and "restrikes" from a hundred to two hundred years ago possibly.

I dislike replicas strongly because if they get handed down to the wrong person they might confuse it with the real thing. And that brings disappointment later down the road.

I just finished reading the story on the FTC's ruling concerning Replicas & Beth Deisher's Editorial in the April 19, 2004 issue of Coin World. I also noted a Full Page Ad for National Collector's Mint on page 75 of the same issue!!
