i'm thinking about starting a 1955 Parkhurst set, and my goal would probably be around a 6.5 GPA. 7's on the commons and OTG's, and 6's on the stars and Plante.
any idea how much something like this would cost, assuming i piece it together one card at a time? multiple card vintage hockey lots are rarely offered other than major auction houses, so that option really isn't feasible.
thanks

That's one thing I hate about vintage cards, because when slabbed, the prices are determined by demand. Because graded commons rarely turn up on ebay and buying raw is a huge risk. So if I were you, I'd start of by collecting the star cards of this set and then work your way down to the commons.
Do you already have the Plante? Finding that card in good grade is a killer.
Ebay history has shown me that most guys start their 7's off at 49.00
I just paid 60.00 for SGC 86's. I think that is the fair and going rate.
This is the most beautiful parkhurst set in my opinion, and you would
be looking at building a fifty year old set.
I'm not going to overhype this set, because everyone collects what they
like, but you see that the POP's are tough on this parkie set compared to others. Also, when I was
talking to Mr. Parkies-Ebay username, he was telling me that his buddies always look
for 55-56's in trade with him too.
Good luck, marc
and no, i don't have the Plante. i passed on a PSA 3 for $100, and didn't have the money for the PSA 7's i've seen offered for $900 and $1000. i'll pick one up eventually since he's my favorite player and i'll have a ton of cash from working this summer. i do have his minor league rookie card though (1951 Laval PSA 7)
who is "Mr. Parkies" anyway? he's won some incredible stuff on ebay
Price is a funny thing on 55's. I've sold 8's for $95 only to see them go for $200 a year later.
IM me as I've got a bunch of 55's you might want.
Tom
Mr. Parkies is a first class gentleman from Montana/Alberta.
The truth is that he is building high grade hockey sets
from 1951 upward in opc and parkhurst.
He is a very patient collector. He places his bid and does
not bid again. He knows what he wants to pay and sticks
to it.
He does not participate on the registry. His work keeps
him busy.
