Wayne Ellis Is DA MAN!!

I could have buried this in the thread I started about the 1974 set, but instead I thought it was better to thank Wayne in a new thread for his thoughtfulness and generosity.

Here's what happened: Two weeks ago I bought a very large chunk of Wayne's 1974 set, nearly 150 cards. After Wayne's cards arrived, and after all of that deleting and adding was done (man, I hate that process - being on a dialup modem makes it like pulling teeth) I posted a message on the vintage trading board about having loads of PSA 8 1974's for sale.

All of my 1974 PSA 8 duplicates sold in two days, David Barkus buying the lion's share. A few days later I get an email from David asking me to delete a couple of cards I must have forgotten about, including #609 Petrocelli. I immediately went to check on my set and to my horror discovered that I accidentially sold my ONLY copy of that card to David! All of that deleting and adding must have gone to my head.

I immedialtely emailed David to explain my mistake, and then sent a message to Wayne asking if he still had a PSA 9 Petrocelli, also explaining what I had done. Both guys showed great class - David offered to sell the card back to me without hesitation. Wayne, bless him, not only had the PSA 9 Petrocelli, but offered to give it to me for free!

I just got the card today, and I want to publicly thank Wayne for what he did - what class! Wayne, if you are going to the National, be sure to look me up and I'll buy you dinner, or lots of beers, or both!! Wayne didn't have to do what he did, and I think it's a great story and a great reflection on how this "community" can work together for everyone's benefit.

Steve

PS - David - keep the card!

Nice story Steve. Wayne was one of the first guys who helped me learn the ropes when I started the whole set registry thing (at the time he was the King of 1965's). You are correct...he is a class act. I hope to meet both of you this year in Cleveland.

Wayne's always been solid. We traded '65's many moons ago and he also purchased some outright. Easier transactions, I've never had. Steve is way up there too. By the way, the '73's should be in your possesion tomorrow....jay

I don't know Steve, Wayne or David, but I sure wish I did. That is a great story!
  • Hey guys - thanks! I appreciate that. Steve, I was just glad I was able to get that card to you. Sitting at 99.9% isn't much fun.image

You've got one heck of a collection.

    Thanks again,

That's a class act Wayne, it's the stories like that that keep me here.

On another note, I've just started collecting the '65 set , have won Aaron & Powell cards with a few other bids in and also bought the Rico, Lonborg , & Radatz cards from a board member. If either you or Jay have 7's or 8's that you would like to sell, please let me know.
