OT- Open forum

I ventured into the open forum last night with a rather strong opinion about President Bush's news conference.

I'm still not sure if I escaped with all my fingers and toes but I did get drubbed. There seems to be a certain one sidedness to opinion and objectivity over there. imageTomorrow's headlines: Bush quits in front of american people

Thanks for the Open Forum thread. I put my 2 cents worth there since it's probably a more appropriate venue for what I had to say... image

BTW, I never realized the difficulty in getting across a simple concept like responsibilty... image

Vern, after a couple of them went after me and then switched to different threads on the same topic, I followed up with a couple of posts in their thread in a more moderate tone trying to explain where I think Bush went wrong last night, and the answer was "shut up!"

    Great debaters...image

Edited to add: I've been following your dialog over on the open forum in the above thread-have at them and courage! Responsibility is something only Democrats have to take apparently, not Republicans...image

I'd just like anyone in government to take responsibility. There seems to be a trend to equate that with weakness or culpability.

Fortunately what we do have in common in these forums is a love of beauty, an appreciation of history and a realization that we are caretakers of pieces of the past for the benefit of the future. Sometimes it's truly best to emphasize what brings us together. image

    Laurent:

I saw your thread, but I was too busy editing stories about the news conference to jump in. I also thought you were taking an unfair drubbing and didn't want to get flamed myself. But I would point out that many of my colleagues -- none of whom have any love to spare for Bush -- thought the president's performance was uncharacteristically good.

Newsman, I have always tried to see the other point of view, sometimes to a fault.

Please seperate for a moment, his initial prepared statement from the news conference. He may be getting better at the former, but I thought he was terrible at the latter, but then you knew that.image

For god's sake, where and how was he uncharacteristically good?

Also, I like to listen to politico's on the radio, not on TV. Try listening to the text of the news conference instead of watching it- it allows a focus on what was said, not on what was shown.

Laurent, from what I've seen on the open forum you weren't flamed too badly. I've seen much worse. Just my 2 pence worth.

  • I agree. Mr. Bush seemed tired, but honest, in his answers and statements. He is much better with prepared speeches and teleprompters. I think that solutions for an 'honorable' Iraqi extraction are taking its toll and that the party's politicos have considered the possibility that it may be better to NOT win the election in order that the Democrats can be left with the problem, and blamed in 2008.

Actually, they handled you with kidgloves, Laurent. The OF is about as different from the Dark Side as you can get. Once, "drivel" was king there, but milord Drivel succumbed to that wasting illness known as lackawit. Now it's all about shouting each other down, Cam Slams, and girlie pics. Sometimes there's a flash of real wit, but like the will-o'-wisp, it's rather ephemeral.

Unfortunately there are five or six hardcore neocons that live on the OF. That in itself wouldn't be that bad, however, all of them have a world view similar to an earthworm...

Are you saying all of the hardcore neocons or everyone on the OF has a world view similar to an earthworm?

That's what I thought you meant, but the statement was a little ambidextrous and I could interpret it both ways image
