How much would you pay for a 1793 chain AMERICA cent in VG?

depends on the surfaces. I've seen some pretty ROUGH PCGS ones that I wouldn't touch in low grades.

If the surfaces are choice and smooth, I would imagine 10-13K wouldn't be out of the question.

I saw a crappy PCGS g6 at baltimore that my G6 literally BLOWS away and If I recall the guy wanted close to 7 for it

I agree with Goose, It could range anywhere from not intrested to double cdn if nice. I have seen a varying range of quality chains holdered by pcgs. If I were looking for one, and found one nice with no corrosion, nice color and a smooth planchet with a decent date, It would easily be worth 11k+ IMO.

    Thanks.
There is one on DLRC VG8 going for about 10K. What do you think?

The scratches are a downer but the detail is pretty good in my opinion.

Here are a couple that sold in auction.

  • Sure are pretty. I probably wouldnt buy one, (because i dont have that kind of money to spend on coins.) If i did i would say maybe 9k, for a halfway decent looking vg.

I'm not sure what I would pay but, I wouldn't pay 10K for that one.Man,for 10K,I'd rather buy a REAL nice Bust Dollar.

To think that I have been crying about not being able to talk a dealer out of his chain cent(ag),I must be nuts.Guess I'm behind the times.

Sure would like to own one some day.

This is not a bad chain as far as chains go. I think it is over priced a bit. If it was an AMERI variety it might be worth that.

I beleive it is a Sheldon 3 the most common of the 5 chain varieties.

This one is currently listed on ebay in a SEGS Good-4 holder - actually a pretty nice looking coins - surfaces and color. This seller also has a PCGS AG03 that looks pretty thrashed, a not-to-bad looking ANACS FR02, and also a pretty corroded ANACS Good-4. I won't comment about prices but check out this one and themlook at his other 1793 Chain cent items

I like the one in the SEGS holder at G-4 better than the DLRC coin at VG-8. The difference in price makes the SEGS coin even more appealing. I agree with the seller, it does look like a real G-4, or Choice AG3+ by EAC standards. This coin will NEVER be less expensive.

I can vouch for the seller. I've bought a few coins from him. Very nice guy, honest, etc.

do you mean NET vg? or REAL vg? big difference....

  • The DLRC Chain is not a VG-8, first of all. Nuff said. Secondly, when buying Chain or Wreath Cents, base your buying decision on eye appeal above any technical grade, especially a TPG grading opinion.
