hey fellow puckheads, there's a jacques plante 55-56 quaker oats rookie on ebay.

it's rough ( tape marks ) but in my opinion it is truly a vintage hockey
collector dream to acquire one of these.

there was one offered by gerry chartrand about a
month ago at 750.00 but it did not sell. maybe he will
relist.

  • i would have bid on Gerry's plante, but i seriously questioned why he wouldnt have a 4 figure card graded first
  • is the plante's back centering a miscut
or just really off center? opinions????

goodriddance , I did not see the auction from Gerry or know anything about this card . I will say that I have bought a lot of cards from Gerry , most raw , and never had one come back altered. He usually tells it like it is. Not quite sure how he calculates centering sometimes but you can see that for yourself. the rest of the card is usually what he says and if you do find anything wrong with a card, he has no problem refunding your money. i have had cards that he sold me as nm/mint come back as 9's and almost always come back 8's if the centering is right.
  • gerry is a up front guy. just a step below len pottie.
and a big step above aj's.

  • duncan, i'm still leery of dropping that much on a raw card. Gerry is a stand up guy, but i dont have the time to buy a card, try to get it graded through a fellow board member, coming back as altered, etc. not saying that would be the case, just somewhat leery

    Interesting points.
goodriddance189 - I do not blame you for not bidding on a raw card, especially one as important to you as the Plante. However, I think most of Gerry's cards that are graded are higher grades. It is possible he did not grade out the card because it was lower grade.

Gerry does have no problem refunding your money if you are not happy with his grades. However, his raw graded cards have come back usually at least one grade lower from PSA that I have seen purchased.

coachvinny - Nice point about the three dealers.
  • aro 13 or anyone, do you know of a pop report ( either psa, sgc, gai )
for the plante rc greenback? are there a lot graded?

how many of the regular redback plante rcs have been graded?

coachvinny - Here is the pop report on the regular Plantes
    1-2 3-4 5 6 7 7Q 8 8Q 9
    50 JACQUES PLANTE 3 3 9 4 14 0 7 5 0 45

There have only been two quakers graded a 3 or 4 and a 5. I am not certain how accurate that is though as not all Quaker Oats cards have been properly labelled on the front.
  • at least one Parkie 7 is mislabelled, because its registered to someones set as "Quaker Oats"
  • so psa may have mislabeled numerous greenbacks as redbacks regular so the
    pop report is useless.

why wouldn't the submitter catch the error and get psa to re-label?

goodriddence, please explain what you mean? i'm not following.
are you saying there's a plante greenback psa 7 out there some where?

  • link to set

it says "#50 1955 PARKHURST JACQUES PLANTE QUAKER OATS ISSUE 7"

must be mislabelled, because the highest graded in the pop report is a 5

I have three quaker oats cards that are in
    1955 parkhurst labels.

I am in the process of getting them relabeled
and switched on the POP reports.

I'm sure there are a few more, but who could know unless
    you own them.

I offered Gerry 1k if the Plante would come back a PSA 5.
He said he'd sell it for 925.00 with no guarentee.
I decided to pass on it, but I think the card was fine.
No evidence of trimming on the scan at all.

Thanks aro13 for your help with the quaker oats cards.
Thanks to coach vinny as well.
Vinny, I know you have a few more gems for me.
Keep me updated when you are ready to list/sell.

    Vinny,

Make sure PSA is grading before you go.

I think they are only accepting submissions,
    but I've been wrong before.
