$5 Gold Smithsonian in UNC. Is it the biggest modern sleeper?

I have been noticing some ads for modern gold commems lately in which the 1996 $5 gold Smithsonian in Unc. is either missing or unpriced. I feel that this is a very underrated coin. Does anyone else agree with me on this?

Since I've already got one, I can only agree with you! It's also a lovely little coin.

Now if I could just get my hands on some 1995-96 Olympic gold....

Several of the modern commems in MS gold have particularly low mintages (more people tend to buy the proofs, apparently). A number of them, such as those cited here, are quite attractive. I think they are worth collecting on their own merits, and are likely to be desireable to collectors generally over time because of these attributes.
  • I agree with you.
    Several others are underrated!
Commemoratives are HOT, better buy them now while the price is LOW...
