BARRY BONDS

this guy is totally infatuated with himself

what's the deal with him at the press conference wearing the "Barry Bonds 660" t-shirt and hat? he looked like the dad in national lampoon's vacation. oh, that's right, he's in the souvenir business now so that was actually free advertisement

next thing you know he's walking around during BP drinking Barryade and chewing Bondblegum

99% of the proceeds go to the Build Barry Bigger Houses Foundation

when Barry comes out with his own trading cards I wonder if PSA will grade them?

All teams do this after winning championships.
It's all a promotional thing for their fans.

I guess it can upset others who don't root for them.

  • agreed.

and if Mr. Rookie had any demand for t-shirts with
his face on them, you can bet your butt we would
be seeing them spammed all over this board!

it is simple ecconomics. HE is a product that is in demand.
It is no different than Van Halen selling shirts with
their picture on it... do an ebay search for most famous players
and see how much junk they have for sale

Bonds was just smart enough to do it on his own!

  • I don't disagree with Bonds selling the shirts and hats and who knows what else. I disagree with him wearing them at the press conference. At the press conference he should be wearing his BP jersey or just a nice suit. But decked out in all that Barry merchandise he looked really cheap.

Even egomaniacs like Allen Iverson and Terrell Owens don't appear at press conferences in their own souvenir shirts.

I disagree 100%. The dad was Chevy Chase in Vacation, and he is not black. I will argue this one all day.

Let him enjoy his historical day as he chooses. This guy gets bashed left and right and can never just enjoy his accomplishments. There is a heck of alot of bigger jerks out there. Keyshawn Johnson, Terrell Owens, and Gary Sheffield to name a few.

Is Bonds a jerk sometimes? Yeah. But I think he has kept his composure pretty damn good over the last few years considering all of the junk that has been thrown at him. He lets his bat do the talking and some people don't want to hear it. ( JoeStalin )

When he gets tested positive for steroids, talk all you want. If Bonds, at his size can hit 70 Hr's and be accused of taking steroids, then Soriano, at his size, should be accused of taking steroids also for hitting 40 HR's!! Just think of how many Soriano would hit if he didn't strike out so much!?!?!?

Arod is DEFINITELY TAKING STEROIDS IF HE COULD HIT 56 HR'S 2 YEARS AGO AND HAVE THAT SKINNY FRAME, RIGHT? He is skinnier than Brady Anderson was when he hit 50. What's up with that? I hope you see my point.

    C'mon now.

7 MVP awards, the single season HR record, career walks record, single season walks record, 700HR/500SB, and two batting titles near 40 years old. How can one argue that those aren't stats of the greatest to ever play the game??? All this and there is still more to come!!!! Bonds:2005 NL MVP. Or are you going to doubt him again?

  • who has the gayer voice? Bonds, Tony Gwynn, Jeff Garcia, or Mike Tyson?

  • << <i>who has the gayer voice? Bonds, Tony Gwynn, Jeff Garcia, or Mike Tyson? >>

Tyson has the gayist (is that a word?) voice for sure!

but Bonds and Gwynnn both have voices that do not
seem to fit their tough/big guy appearance.

  • A-rod does not look like he has put on 40 lbs over the past 5 years, so the argument that he is doing them does not make sense - same for Griffey. The problem people have with Bonds outside of his arrogance is that when most people hit 35 they start to lose size and strength due to a decrease in the ability of their body to produce as much testosterone and growth hormone. Somehow Barry has been able to fool father time and get bigger and stronger as he gets older, and he wants to chalk it up to lifting weights...

The old saying if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck it most likely is applies here. Not to mention that little deal going on with BALCO where his trainer gets nailed for steroid possession, under subpoena states he gave Bonds steroids or the like, and even his former teammates state as much. Has he been proven guilty in a court of law? The answer is either no or not yet, but if you think he never did them I guess OJ was innocent as well.

  • ever notice how Jeff Garcia looks like Boggs from the Shawshank Redemption?
  • Yeah, and Red from the Shawshank Redemption looks like the limo driver from Driving Ms. Daisy.

Great comparison Will! That was spot on!

The attitude coming off here (fan and criticwise) I wonder if it's how Bonds meant by some media quote as saying. He knows how it feels to be Hank Aaron when chasing Ruth's Record.

This quote has really been discussed extensively today on the WFAN.

Baseball fans (Of all backgrounds) don't understand what he was getting at.

Different players in a tremendously different time and climate. I'm not sure what Bonds is alluding to but in this case, IMO, people are looking at his history of arrogance, ambivalence at best toward fans, media etc. and THAT IS IT! What I see is a pretty good player who could be a little more affable.
