Underground shill network for NR auctions on EBay?

Hello , I'm new to the boards but have been 'lurking" for awhile. Anyway I was watching this NR auction on Ebay{3906342161} by atochajewelry and find it was won by aucton-line. I check his From Sellers feedback and he apparently buys everthing from a small group of dealers on all NR Auctions which includes atochajewelry, goodprices4coins,classycoins, invest-in-coins etc. Then I check out auction=lines feedback from buyers and find a buyer named rushen who has bought at least 100 items from atochajewelry and other NR auctions from sellers verypq, collectables2sell and others. It kinda' looks suspicious that a group of dealers are shill bidding on each others auctions thereby artificially setting there own reserves and working out the particulars amoung themselves. Don't have proof but it look "funny" to me. And Thank You all for your coin information!

I don't buy from any of those guys, especially atocha. The auctions never look "right" to me. He always has too many raw O/CC, O/S, 65 morgans, etc.
  • What does NR? I've seen it all the times on ebay but never understood quite what it ment.

Shill bidding is rampant on eBay, but next to impossible to prove. Why bid on a strangers' coin if he is a PowerSeller unknown to you if there are alsoo many good dealers known to you?

    B I N G O !

You'd be surprised at just how pervasive shill bidding is. Multiple identities as well...bidding

their own goods. get a buddy - have dual identities, happen to get a "live one" caught in the

middle and some rather expensive items will be at full value on day one of a 7 day auction. This is

why they have no fear and run expensive items with no reserve. Happens all the time-just look

under bid history for a guy that has bid like a man posessed up until the auction is almost over and

    interestingly enough...just drops out!image

shill-bidding is by far, no question, the worst of problems on ebay. in fact, i'd say it's their downfall.

that said, shilling is also a problem at live auctions.

I've noticed these trends as well. But, I also avoid the sellers you've mentioned. I got burned a few times in my early days on eBay. Now, I look for specific dealers/sellers that I've had postive experiences with. If I find something that I'm unsure of, I ask here before bidding. BTW, welcome to the boards.
