Grades are in. What was I thinking????????!!!

bearcavebearcave Posts: 3,996 ✭✭✭✭✭
Never submitted proof coins before, so I thought I would give it a shot and try to get a feel for what to look for. I took proof sets, cut them open and sent everything in! I kinda now have a little better feel for what is cam, deep cam and just a proof. I figured I have to learn some way and no better way than to do it than with your own coins.

That 54 Frankie looks like a label typo.
  • No bags = happy day. I thought you did OK. Of course, I don't know what your expectations were...

I am sorry to see those grades for your first time. They were pretty tough on you.The 1954 Frankie is an MS coin mislapeled obviously. It is a nice conversation piece. You could send it back in and have it corrected.I will shortly be sending in a Modern Submission as well as a Regular Submission.I hope I have better luck.imageimage

    Ken,

Danged tough first run. For what it's worth, it takes looking at lots of moderns to begin to see the seperation of grade and the cam/dcam designations. In my head, I've got a simple formula. If the devices are silver and the fields are mirrored, it's a cam. If the devices are white and the fields are black it's a dcam. The other rule is if it isn't worth $50 in the undergrade, don't submit it, the fees will kill you. That 73-S Washington is a good benchmark for the dcams.

Welcome to the party, and I'll bet your next batch will be strong.image

I hope you have better luck too!

I am not disappointed as I am the one that wanted to know what to look for in coins that are proof. I threw in the 2 Franklins to make an even submission. I thought they were both MS tho.

I have coins now that I can look at that are not pictures. (expensive ones at that but hey, I did it!) image

That's a good analogy to go by. When I first sent these in I had no experience in moderns. I have pretty good luck with the old silver but had never tried these. I have more that I sent in after these and maybe I had a little better feel for it, we'll see.

I figured to try and see what is what is to use my own coins, I did and this is what I got. I can live with it. image

These don't look all that bad for a random submission. It looks like there were
    several pretty nice coins.
