Former ID : ugottasweetdeal 2/15-4/10 this year, wonder who he was before that? I'm so tired of the rip-off sleazeball dealers , are there really that many morally bankrupt people in this hobby? Tired & disgusted, Dave
"are there really that many morally bankrupt people in this hobby"
They appear to be multiplying like rabbits....and this board only sees a VERY small percentage of all the other buyers being taken everyday by these lower-than-dirt sellers. I believe if the size of this problem was known, it would be all the more frightening. Fortunately, I have never run into one, but due to the horror stories, it has caused me to alter my buying techniques. I now buy pretty much only from those that I have dealt with before, with few exceptions here and there. I'm sure I will get burnt one day (the odds are there for this to happen), but hopefully not for bigtime $$ like I've heard some people have. The bottom line is I don't know how these people sleep at night pulling this crap.
Yeah, I agree. Especially for really expensive items, I make sure they have been in business a long time and have very few, if any, negative feedbacks. Realistically, looking at this card, it is a good price, but I guarantee there's something fishy about it, whether it be a cracked open case with a reprint inside, or non-receipt of the item. Another thing I don't like is people who don't accept Paypal. I know that the fees are a pain to deal with, but from what I have seen, auctions that have Paypal end up going for a higher price than ones that don't accept Paypal. It seems like that would nullify your fees right there.
You spilled WHAT on my 1952 Topps Mantle?!?!?! Doh!!
Ken , I'm one of those guys who did get ripped off.... to the tune of almost $1100 2 years ago. I stopped eBay buying a couple months later until just over a month ago. I'm trying to weed out the bad actors but there are soooooooo many ebay sellers & the known good ones don't necessarily have what I want. So far I haven't made any big $ purchases except for lots & those were still only $300-400.
Bill, I know exactly what you mean, I look out for the non-Paypal takers but some have a good reason for not accepting it. Case in point : I paid for the above mentioned $1100 loss with Paypal, they wouldn't do a thing for me. I did get $400 + back from eBay's fraud program though. I also look out for high shipping ripoffs although will sometimes bid those auctions but adjust my bid down to compensate.
