OT: question for ebay sellers concerning a refund

I have a person not happy with an item they received. They want to send the item back and receive a refund. IMO, I shouldn't be responsible for any shipping. Should I have to send them money back for shipping also? Surely I'm only resposible to refund the auction price right? Also don't send refund until I receive the item right? I have a feeling this person may try to hold my feedback hostage unless I play their game. I feel for you sellers. I was strictly a buyer for 3 years and I've been selling for about 4 months now and it's amazing how many morons I've encountered as a seller. Thanks for any info.

Shipping charges are generally not included in the refund price, and I specify this in my return policy. I would not refund the money (purchase price only) until you receive the coin back.

Need more info. True auction, ie; low start no reserve? What is your stated return policy, if any? Selling price of item? What is the buyer's stated reason for return? Were accurate pictures and an accurate description provided? Was the coin graded or raw?

Hey Russ. Actually it's a leather football helmet, but I wanted you guys' advice since I frequent this forum the most. The picture accurately showed it, but there was one detail that I left out that if the person knew their helmets they would've known without having seen it in person. Unfortunately I wasn't smart enough to list a return policy. I have no problem sending a refund, but the person was a tad hateful in their email and it makes me wonder if they're going to start making demands like send them the money for shipping also or demand the refund before sending. I guess since I have the money the ball is in my corner, but I'm wondering if this person may be upt o something.

HMM...if there was a detail you left out - even if one could assume the buyer should have known - then I'd say just go ahead and refund. The reason I asked all those questions is because there are too many buyers out there that want to return an item for no other reason than they were hoping for a rip, or they have buyer's remorse. That type, I frequently tell to go pound sand.

I would wait to get the item back and only refund the auction price.

You probably don't have to give a refund but he will neg you.

I only have one negative in 550+ transactions so I'm tempted to tell them to just eat the auction and if they want their money back then sell the item, but on the other hand I value my 99.8% positive. I have a feeling they may neg me regardless so I wonder if I should just tell them no refund.

I would send them a nice email stating that you are sorry they are unhappy with item, and you will refund 100% of auction price, but not shipping charges - and stress - only upon 'receipt of item'.
