How often does PCGS update the POP?

I sent them a label from a cracked slab along with a submission late last year and the cracked coin has yet to be removed from the pop.

Until recently, that was the case. The last two weeks, though, it's been updated on Monday. If may have changed.

    Aethelred,

Don't hold your breath waiting for the coin to be removed. They move at glacial speed on those, and frequently not at all.

It has occurred to me that pop reports can't be held as "gospel" due to several factors.

Crossovers and re-submissions/ crackouts are just a couple right off the top!image

The question was when it was updated, not how accurate it is.

I always thought that it was updated when the king of moderns deemed it necessary. image

OK..I cross over an NGC 66 1936-S Washington Quarter to PCGS 66....How does NGC know that
they,ve "lost one"? PCGS knows it has gained one. Now suppose I crack that 66 out and try to upgrade to a 67, how in the world would PCGS know they 've gone down one in pop?image

As always, it is a (the major) problem with the services not offering enough to get their old certifications back.
In a lot of cases, it makes the "pops" worthless. It is sad, as it is another example where pcgs could be head and shoulders above, but doesn't take the initiative to get a grip on available positive goodwill. Sorry, but true.

Makes population rather invalid then. No true count!image

You gotta know sombody who knows the particular series you are interested in, from their personal submissions, and their personal info. from others' submissions, if necessary. There are only a few who have this info available...

A good analogy is a barometer vs. a thermometer. The pop. reports are like a barometer - you'll know what the overall trend is but you'll never know the exact temperature.

Boom, When you cross from NGC to PCGS you get the NGC insert sent back to you with the coin.
When you crack a coin you again have the insert from the cracked coin. If you want PC and NGC
to adjust there pops it is then your responsibility to send the inserts back to each respected
party for adjustment. If you send in a coin for upgrade in the holder and the coin upgrades then
PC & NGC will remove the coin of the lower grade from the pop report and add 1 to the current
    grade.

My issue is that I did send in the label and have also asked several times to have the coin removed from the pop and after four months it still has not been done. BTW the coin in question is pop 1/2, but is showing as pop 1/3. Am I being too anal?

NO definately not. The recorded pops are THE most important history of the integrity of the company. If they don't produce solid, upstanding, real numbers, they are worthless. ( OH, IMHO )

Oh, and I didn't say "accurate" because accuracy can always be fudged. I, and I assume we, just want the real deal. It's our bucks, why can't we get an accurate reading? image

Which is why I no longer even bother. They never even removed the artificially frosted Accented Hair Kennedy they paid me for - which they cracked out themselves, dipped and reholdered as a non cameo.

Every tag I have sent in was removed from the pops. I sent in a tag from a pop 2/0 coin that now reads
pop 1/0. It did take 4 months to get that one off the pops. I sent in a tag to NGC from a pop 1/0 coin
with a note to have it removed from the pop report ASAP. With in 2 weeks it was off the pop report.

Just to ease everyone's mind, I don't have any inserts lying around to effect the pops. imageimage
