Will you take "X" amount of dollars and end your auction early?

Is it acceptable to make an offer to a seller for less than his BIN . Is it against ebay rules for the seller to end his auction early and accept the offer?

Thanks,
Randy

Technically it is against the rules to offer to buy from or sell to any ebay member off of ebay if you've gotten their contact information from eBay - - they want all buying / selling done on their site so they get the $$ from it...but then again what are they going to do about it? Cancel the auction? image

I frequently make early closure offers. It's about the only way to wrest anything away from all the bloodhounds chasing the same coins I am. If it's early in the process and the auction has no bids, I see nothing wrong with it at all.

  • I am sure many would say, "If the price is right".
  • If there are no bids I imagine the seller could change or insert a buy it now.

Joe, all they have to do is end the listing early by selling to the highest bidder right after you bid. They also can add a BIN.

The seller actually already has a BIN price on his auction.I think it is a little high. There are no bids yet on the item so I guess he could change/lower his BIN price to match my offer. The auction has been running for almost 4 days already with no bids. Its a coin I would really like to have.Could wait to the last minute and save quite a bit if no one bids on it.Dont want to take the chance of losing it last minute though.

I think I'll make a offer to buy it now if he lowers his BIN.

Man, I rarely get to see auctions end on the stuff I like. They all just disappear.image

When I sell, I will not end early if a bid has already been placed. No bids yet, make your offers!

Some sellers appreciate offers to sell prior to the closing of an auction for the reason that they may prefer to sell to someone who has proven feedback rather than risk having to take a chance on some newbie with sunglasses who outbids at the end. --- So it wouldn't hurt reminding the seller of your stellar reputation as a buyer as an added incentive to get favorable treatment.

I have ended an auction early on occasion, but will only do it, if thier has been no bids. I feel if a bid has been placed, then its unethical for me to cancel thier bid, unless of course something truly happened to the coin, or a listing error. Also, I factor in the e-bay fee charge that I would have had to pay if someone bidded and usually back it off the agreement price, but on the same token, I will not lower the BIN price so that the potential buyer can buy through e-bay. I am not going to pay the same fee's and lower the agreement price, on larger dollar items.

I have ended auctions on two ocassions where someone never delivered on the funds.
One was a PCGS Vf-25 1856 Fe at 7400.00 and the other was a PCGS 1901-s Quarter Good-6 at 2750.00. However, I was lucky as on the re-list, both coins sold for more the second time around.

If I put a coin up for sale here and also on eBay I will put a statement in my eBay item description saying that the coin has been offered for sale elsewhere and that I reserve the right to cancel the listing if a non eBay offer to sell comes about. Does this sound fair?
