My guess is a 1901 Turkish 100 kurus, but I might be off on the date

On second thought, I see that the 100 kurus was a gold issue, so I plead ignorance on the denomination and date
    "Have a nice day!"
  • Blackhawk, you may be close. It looks like 1327, year 1 which is 1909. It is Turkish and probably has the gold color washed out and a dime size piece may be a 50 kurush, .1064 of an ounce of gold, KM-753, Constantinople mint. That is a scarce date, though, $3000 in Unc in my Krause.

  • That looks like the same type of coin, but correct me if I am wrong, you have a different date on your coin.

  • That design was identical on several different denominations which can only be differentiated by the size of the coin (as far as I know). What exactly is the coin's diameter in millimeters? The dime size 50 kurush should weigh 3.6 grams if genuine. Counterfeits are possible so weighing it may be a good idea if possible.

  • Ooooo, look at that, a similar design but when you put them side by side they are quite different. I'm learning stuff already.
I'm going to weigh it when I get home.
As for the date, where is it on the coin? I'm Arabic-illiterate!
    Thanks.

  • Japanese/Arabic number translation.
The 1327 date is on the right hand photo near the bottom and above the wreath. The regnal year, or year of the current reign that began in 1327, looks like a 1 and is in basically the same place on the other side of the coin.
So do you have a picture of each of them?

  • Here's a couple more shots I took with better lighting. When I get some time I will photo each and update the thread. Thanks again.
