Does the Denver Mint give public tours?

Was sitting here thinking about summer vacation plans and thought that while out doing a little fly fishing in Wyoming this summer I might take my 10 year old YN down to Denver to see the Mint. Does anyone know if they give public tours and how to find a schedule?

Yes, but they are limited and you need to get an "invitation" through your Congressman's office. We tried last summer, requesting the tour about 2 months ahead of time and it was already all booked up.
  • From the Mint web site:
The United States Mint offers tours in its Philadelphia and Denver locations. At both facilities, the tours are free. Touring the U.S. Mint is a fascinating experience for those of all ages and one that will be remembered for a lifetime. Tours cover both the present state of coin manufacturing as well as the history of the Mint. Learn about the craftsmanship required at all stages of the minting process, from the original designs and sculptures to the actual striking of the coins. Click on the photo from either city for details on hours and addresses.

Both of the Mint locations welcome school and youth groups (grades kindergarten through 12), and organized military and veteran groups and are wheelchair accessible. Because many of our guests have special needs, special services are provided by the Exhibits and Public Services Office. Office personnel can provide private tours to handicapped or older individuals who request assistance. At the Philadelphia Mint facility, a wheelchair is also available for individuals who need assistance. Please call 215-408-0110 (voice) for further information.

Yes, but the tour is limited and you have to keep up with the guide. At least that was how it was a couple of years back when I went. At one point you are up on a second floor where you can look out over the press floor. There are also several exhibits in the area. I wanted to spend some time there looking at all the exhibits and looking out over the floor to see what each employee was doing. We were only allowed about 10 minutes in the area. I was bummed. I've heard Philadelphia is more collector friendly, but havn't been there personally so don't know.

How would you like a personalized FLOOR TOUR of the Denver Mint? Sound impossible? Well, it's not.

Here is what you do . . . participate in week 2 of the ANA Summer Seminar (which is the BEST value in collecting!). The Friday at the end of the second week, you can sign up for a floor tour of the Denver Mint . . . absolutely amazing fun!

A few years ago, we actually had Mint Director Johnson and Randy 'L Teton (model for the Sac dollar) on our tour!
