Received some interesting suprises in change today. Here in Oregon we see the occasional Canadian Quarter but what the heck is this?

These were really a suprise.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the first coin is from the United Arab Emirates.

(And they say I don't know anything about coins!)

You are good at reading those foreign coins. The 1911 is pretty unusual in change.

But since i know nothing about the "United Arab Emirates" my question still stands.

The UAE is a country on the Arabian Peninsula, bordering Saudi Arabia.

All kidding aside, I believe that the Arabic numeral is one. I'm not sure what the denomination is, although I'll venture a guess as "piastres". The date next to the Western one is the Arabic date of succession, which should be around 1310 for it's Western equivalent of 1990. Sounds close anyway.

Don't take any of this to the bank, pardon the pun. My Krause is at home, and I can look it up for you later.

It's a 1415 (1995) one dirham. Krause lists it at $.65 in XF. This coin
hasn't proven difficult to find in unc and is apparently still in use.
